The pattern, as depicted verbatim, would definitely work to prevent recurves. Now, will anything spin up? That's the $64,000 question.

The images out of the Bahamas are jaw dropping. It's flattened and the bays look more like garbage dumps. No doubt the death toll will climb. If Dorian had passed over it might have been far less devastating, but it just sat there and churned

I guess "Sir Rainsalot" aka Dorian is a himmicane not a herricane. Lol.

My bad, my bad. Dang unisex storm names.

Either way, this has got to be the most watched hurricane in US history by now. I don't think anyone who knows anything will forget it in our lifetimes. Pretty incredible and that is in no way making light of the unspeakable tragedy and devastation this beast has left in its wake.

An aside: For those who have never been at sea, or been on shore during storms. As the sea churns it produces foam. If the wind blows hard enough, it blows the foam about.

I love that. One of my favorite things about a stormy day on the beach (until it gets in your mouth, lol).

Tropical Storm Elsa hit Florida and moved up the northeast coast.  At the moment, it doesn't appear that there are any substantial systems developing.  There is some storms off the coast of Africa, so we will see if those develop into anything.

Luckily Hurricane Ida, while bad, doesn't appear to have been as devastating as some had predicted.  Still, 700,000 without power.  At the moment, there is no known losses of life.  Let's hope that remains.

The main thing going forward for the region will be power outages now and rainfall (and where that water is going).

Why did the pictures show it already over the land?

Because it is a projection of the depression as it goes over land.  This wasn't an alert for the hurricane hitting the Gulf states. It was for after that.

2022 Hurricane Season is about here!

“Forecasters from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center are predicting 14 to 21 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes and 3 to 6 major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale). These numbers are greater than the 30-year averages (1991-2020) of 14 named storms, seven hurricanes and three major hurricanes.

Warmer-than-average sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, as well as an enhanced west African monsoon also factored into the NOAA prediction.”
-NOAA

It promises to be a busy hurricane season
