PNW December 2022 - Part II

One that might be more useful was Jan 6, 2004.  I had a high of 30 and a low of 22 with 1.03 water equivalent.  Of that 3.3" was snow and I had 0.5" of ice.  That is very likely more liquid that fell as rain than we will have with this event.

Yes... that is a problem for sure.  But 31 in the middle of the afternoon might be less of an issue.  I am just trying to rationalize a way it won't be that bad.   But it might be.

I would agree. I think the more likely scenario is the precip speeds up and arrives late evening Thursday. Though I’m not sure - maybe a more-severe ice storm during the night time hours (limited traffic on roads) would be better than a less-severe ice storm on the afternoon of the day before Christmas. Not a good situation in either circumstance.

Last 3 Euro runs for the initial snow band on Thursday. 850s are +2c to +3c now before any decent precip hits. Euro wants to go straight to sleet/zr.

I immensely dislike this trend-- really hope we get a 12z run that doesn't keep neutering possible snow from this event and maybe keeps us colder longer.

Please tell us more. Also, I’m willing to partner and sell these ;)

Its nothing too fancy, takes about 20 minutes to set up.  Once you get the OS installed, grab the file off github, grab a few API's and set up a couple of scripts.

KATU always had one guy they would send out to Troutdale. He would lose his mind during the live shots, screaming "over the wind." He would act like the wind was going to blow him over, or that he was slopping on the ice. Very theatrical, he also ran around with a ruler he called a "drift stick."

@Skagit Weather are you getting in on that Mt Vernon c-zone?

I was on the western edge of it. Mostly just light (blues) on the radar over me with occasional snow on and off for the last couple hours. It accumulated to maybe 0.1-0.2", but not really enough to add to my total for the day. There's a larger blob moving towards me now, but it looks like it's getting shredded by the outflow as it approaches.

The area between South Tacoma and Renton looks about to get hit pretty good.

The radar has been pretty deceptive with this stuff.  It ends up better than it looks.

Nice to not see a significant change on the push of cold air this EURO run-- that ice storm is gonna be all about precip and precip placement.

Snowing decent in Fife. But it’s the kind of snow that looks like rain from afar until you see it’s tiny snowflakes that fall fast like rain.

You should be able to get enough to lightly coat the road!
