I think Jesse's right about The Dalles airport. At this point the most likely explanation is that they run 2-3 degrees too warm and they probably need to get it fixed.

May also be another indication that the 500mb trough axis is verifying ever so slightly west of where it was being modeled for most of the past week. Definitely still a healthy NE'ly advective tap up there, which generally doesn't happen with a full backdoor swing.

How much colder would this had been with lower heights? like 500 or so?

Euro just go straight to an ice event…. Very little snow. Which I have a hard time believing. But doubted the euro last time and got burned.

22F after a midnight high of 25F.  The usual foothill hugging clouds have developed so I will have a moderated low tonight.  I had a total of 6.5" of snow.  Sad to see it go but I expect we will get more.

This is not your typical puget sound transition event with a very cold airmass in place, 1-3 inches of snow and then a changeover. What details regarding how the low is approaching is causing so much ice to be modeled?

Likely pretty top tier regionally if this had just scooted a tad more SW.

The daytime high of -8 at Kamloops today is extremely impressive and looks like their coldest since 12/29/1990.

After hovering around 27 degrees all day, we're slowly ticking down. Now at 23-24, and the Bremerton Airport is reporting wind chill of 10 degrees, which I believe. That sucker is COLD out there!

We know sfc levels will be very cold….  But anyone know what levels we are looking at for the warmth? 925, 800… etc?

21F at 4:30pm at my place with clear skies. It is going to get COLD tonight... colder than any night last December. Way ahead of what I thought our pace would be so far. We'll be in the teens before 6pm, and threatening single digits by midnight.

KSEA is going to be a site I'll watch very closely. Same for KEUG, hopefully they can reach 32F before midnight as to avoid a midnight high above freezing. Could break Tiger's streak tomorrow.

If tonight isn't our coldest night of the winter, that would be seriously impressive.

This is a deep airmass (deeper than modeled), with clear skies and the longest night of the year after the shortest day. Just about the best case scenario you could imagine.

It's 21 at Seatac now so they only need to drop 5 more degrees to be colder than last December
