I would take 3 to 5 inches of sleet at this point.

That would actually be kind of fun, not as much as the snowfall equivalent though obviously. I would be willing to go for a wintry walk in a sleet storm. Freezing rain is just nasty.

Winter storm warning dropped here this afternoon. 4–8" more snow before the messy transition begins.

Quote

4:02 PM PST Wednesday 21 December 2022
Winter storm watch in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge
  • Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley
  • Metro Vancouver - southwest including Richmond and Delta

A significant winter storm will bring wintery conditions.

Travel conditions will be challenging due to heavy snow, freezing rain, and rain on snow or ice.

Locations: South Coast.

Time span: Thursday night to Saturday (Christmas Eve).

Hazards: Heavy snow followed by freezing rain and rain.

Remarks: A Pacific frontal system combined with the cold Arctic airmass over B.C. will bring another round of snow to the South Coast starting Thursday night. As freezing level rises, the snow will then change to rain late Friday over Vancouver Island, and Friday night or Saturday morning over the mainland with possible snowfall accumulations of 10 to 20 cm. Freezing rain is possible during the transition.

Meanwhile, local blowing snow is possible in strong easterly winds resulting in near zero visibilities.

The exact precipitation amounts and timing of the changeover to rain remain uncertain at this point, but there is a good consensus that the combination of impactful weather will begin early Friday.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Winter storm watches are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

No that's right.

Seattle set a record high and then temps crashed that night and it snowed.

Must have had massive rains that day as well before the snow looking back at my pics!

Is it supposed to warm up before midnight Friday?

I'm not sure, but I think they have a slightly lower chance of staying below freezing all day than Eugene airport since they're more on the eastern side of the valley. Would mean less ice but I hope they can manage a subfreezing high

Eugene down to 37! Good chance of a sub freezing high In Springfield tomorrow?

Currently 37F so it’s gonna be a nailbiter. A lot of the SE valley yet to fill up with cold. Lebanon, Sweet Home, Junction City, Brownsville all need to get colder soon or we won’t quite make it.

Pullman reporting -15 now, wow. That already puts them in 1983, 1990, and Jan 1950 territory. Though not close to the ridiculous record of -32 from 1968, which blows everything else out of the water.

This air mass is proving to be absolutely top tier.

I just found a personal weather station on weather underground that is 1/4 mile from my cabin.  22 below after a high of -4.
