Still anxiously crossing my fingers that being in the "snow zone" might hold true for us tonight. But based on what y'all are saying, that seems like a slim possibility now.

I'm actually less concerned for us than I am for our sweet but VERY stubborn elderly neighbor, who is pretty determined not to cut any of her trees down or do any pruning, so she ends up with WAY too many overhanging branches for my liking. It's going to be a long night of checking in on her, I reckon.

We will definitely have a period of snow but maybe only a couple hrs. Could be longer though. I still think 1-3 inches out here will happen, could be more.

Kinda hard to believe there's gonna be ZR here. It's so frigid and feels like it's gonna transition to snow rather than the other way around. Those raindrops will be sticking almost immediately once they start.

What is your temp.

I guess we just assume snow maps from the GFS would be better back east.  Maybe not.

I'm in Chicago and as of two days ago the GFS was predicting nearly 20" here. It snowed less than 2" and it's currently -2 degrees. Models suck everywhere.

Oh and fwiw, here’s are some battery charging tips.  To increase battery life, charge only between 30-80%… don’t let the batteries go above or below these levels. Once in a while let it drain to 0% and charge to 100%. For iPhones you can set up automation alerts to let you know when to charge and unplug. Once you have to go into battery saving mode, you are doing more harm than good to it.

I have noticed a trend the last year or so especially where people are just in their own little worlds and are just not in tuned with the environment and world around them. I am the complete opposite, I am almost too far the other way. People look at me like I’m crazy when I mention the weather in depth or tell them I’m spending the weekend prepping my property for winter, etc. they think I’m crazy.

That is literally my life. I have horses though so I can blame things on them. "You didn't notice the horses' coat got way thicker? Wow man, do you even pay attention to the weather?"

This is actually true… they think you are crazy for mentioning this to them….. it’s kinda weird because this is the place you can talk about this stuff and not get weirded out. So I need to stop talking about weather outside of this place. 🤣🤣🤣

Freezing RAIN. Just listened to him, portland and Eastside locked in until potentially Saturday then gradual thaw away from gorge impacted areas

Oh yes-- by liquid rain I meant ZR rather than sleet or frozen precip.

Is that the end of the storm?

Yep. Storm never phased with the Gulf moisture and what could have been a 48 hour mega blizzard turned into five hours of blowing pixie dust. Painful.

As a noob to freezing rain events, is it better or worse to have a few inches of snow first? On the one hand, it adds weight to branches and structures, but on the other it seems like it would at least allow for better traction on roads and surfaces since it won’t just be glazed pavement.
