Everyone should get a participation snowman built right in their front yard regardless of it's just a mere dusting, or a 12"+ Snowstorm! Al Gore can hand out ribbons saying [You tried, nice effort on the forum] Why Al Gore? I have no idea.

18z GFS has begun!

Snow people only come alive when the snow is moist and sticky. Trying to build a snow person out of the powdery stuff over here that blows around everywhere would be like trying to build a snow person with sand. Enter Sandman

This is true. As I live near the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge I usually have very dry snow here. What I do is just pee on it. It provides moisture AND temporarily warms the surrounding area. Sure, it smells, and my snow family may all be yellowish, but it's still festive as hell.

You can hand out Yellow snow cones to those who despise winter.  Kind of like a peace offering ya know.

ONI for ASO(August-September-October) has cooled now at -0.4c. Comparing to last year we were at -0.7c, but important to note last years weak Nina had peaked at -0.7c by mid-late September and leveled off with tri-monthly values remaining at -0.7c through mid December. This Winter it appears the weak Nina will peak from mid December to late January.

If the snow is too light to build a snowman that means you should be skiing. Particularly for those of us in the PNW, we have to take advantage of that light snow.

I think during an actual event that it would be a good idea to have a separate topic by region. Or to have separate topics by events, like "Portland (or Seattle) snowstorm December 15th, 2018".

But I like having one main topic to get the big picture until something happens. Unless we want to have Oregon/Washington separate topics by observed weather, but still have the main monthly topic for the big picture.

I understand the logic but I don't see it working. People wouldn't even post about an epic hurricane in Texas in a separate thread.

i really don’t think more than a couple of people actually would want a separate thread for different states.

Not meaning this for states other than the PNW, since this is a Western forum, so mainly Oregon and Washington, and there already is a California thread. Maybe BC if they want that.

Bad idea. I for one want to read everyone's thoughts on events that go on no matter where they are. We hear about hurricanes on here that are a couple thousand miles away so I don't see any harm in hearing other people's excitement about a snowstorm that may have hit Seattle instead of where I live. I'm usually really cold in the winter but lack the precip to make a good storm exciting. Portland is usually too warm for the snow but has ample precip, it's where we live. D**n Pacific Ocean!!!! Don't be jealous people.

I agree, it's really a terrible idea.

I ski. My skis have an engine between them and a big rubber track behind the engine. Really neat.

I don't understand the geographical upsettedness. This is nothing new as truly regional events are pretty rare. December 2008 doesn't happen very often. The idea is that someone living in Seattle could prove just as informative in the lead up to a Portland-centric event and vice versa. After all, we're all in the same maritime-polar, borderline windshield test, microclimate hell. Those who get an upset tummy about the fact they're missing out need to suppress that irrational anger until it becomes a malignant tumor. Then you might have a case for segregation.

Tropical forcing lines up with 2nd half of November potential... wave lengths are different this time of year so the correlation isn't the same as in the heart of winter, but I like the potential

If the LRC is in effect this winter we should see a mega trough / 150 block every 3 weeks or so.

I don't really want separate threads. It just gets old to give real analyse and have people say its "regional bias" because people don't want to hear it. But I guess if Tim can deal with it so can I.

Good post, but of course this part isn't actually true. There's me, Phil, Timmy T-cell, crt450sh, Kayla, Dareduck, Highdesertmat, and several others that regularly post in this thread and don't even live in the same climate zone as the rest of you.

It's still more fun to just have one main thread to follow things and argue with each other.
