CentralNebWeather
I had about 4" on top of the ice/sleet. Not a bad system around here. Much more than forecasted and with ground still somewhat frozen nice run off creeks and ponds are rising. bud2380
Radar does not look very impressive right now. That band just keeps lifting further and further north into MN. Eventually more snow is supposed to develop down by the TC's. It looks like the bulk of the accumulations will come as a result of the low sitting and spinning, so wherever heavier bands setup will do well. Could be some highly variable snow totals in short distances I would think.

james1976
Glad we got the snowblower serviced and running up here. Snowplow blocked the end of the driveway. Snow is real heavy and wet but that thing dug through it pretty well. In a WWA until 6pm tomorrow for another 3-5". Also added in a glaze of ice this afternoon/ evening with frz drizzle. MPX has forecasted this thing quite well.

Minneapolis is over 10" after the latest overnight snow dump. Their season total is up to nearly 44", the 4th highest on record up to this point in the season. It really is ridiculous how each storm is bulls-eyeing the MSP metro. The overnight radar loop shows bands of snow enhancing as they move over the city, just like with several other systems this winter. The low could not have stalled in a better spot. 3 1 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

Hawkeye
The latest HRRR shows the stalled upper low continuing to produce bands of snow over MSP through tomorrow morning, adding up to another 3-4". Slow-moving heavy snow systems are rare down here in Iowa. Most systems race through, which limits most of our bigger snows to 3-6". 1 Quote season snowfall: 34.8" '22-23: 30.2" '21-22: 27.1" '20-21: 52.5" '19-20: 36.2" '18-19: 50.2" '17-18: 39.5" Average snowfall: ~30"

bud2380
Just for comparison, here is the 00z GFS from Sunday night New Years Day the 1/2 00z GFS vs. the Euro for the same time frame. And then the bottom map is actual snowfall reports. Neither did too bad. The Euro was too far south in Iowa with the 6"+ snow line. The GFS was too far north in areas of South Dakota. The GFS probably needed the whole thing about 30 miles further south and it would've been pretty accurate. Euro overall was pretty close, just a little too much snow showing up in parts of Iowa is the biggest miss I see. Maybe parts of SE Minnesota the Euro was too far south with as well. 6

Yep, EURO was too far south. It was even further south on some runs. The EURO showed an ice storm in Omaha almost every run. GFS did not, showed it being too warm. I think the GFS did quite well. Canadian model was too far south on several runs too.

james1976
WWA extended until 6am for 2-4 more inches overnight. I'm already eyeballing 1.5" of new snow since the sun set. Just an incredible system. One of the biggest, if not the biggest of my lifetime. Even though it's a long duration...still same system. The snow piles around town are huge. I'm hoping to get back to IA in the morning but we'll see how that pans out.
