New Year's Day Colorado Low

Just for comparison, here is the 00z GFS from Sunday night New Years Day the 1/2 00z GFS vs. the Euro for the same time frame.  And then the bottom map is actual snowfall reports.

Neither did too bad.  The Euro was too far south in Iowa with the 6"+ snow line.  The GFS was too far north in areas of South Dakota.  The GFS probably needed the whole thing about 30 miles further south and it would've been pretty accurate.  Euro overall was pretty close, just a little too much snow showing up in parts of Iowa is the biggest miss I see.  Maybe parts of SE Minnesota the Euro was too far south with as well.

Yep, EURO was too far south. It was even further south on some runs. The EURO showed an ice storm in Omaha almost every run. GFS did not, showed it being too warm.

I think the GFS did quite well. Canadian model was too far south on several runs too.

Light snow most of day but didn't really accumulate. Here's a couple pics I took a while ago!

WWA extended until 6am for 2-4 more inches overnight. I'm already eyeballing 1.5" of new snow since the sun set. Just an incredible system. One of the biggest, if not the biggest of my lifetime. Even though it's a long duration...still same system. The snow piles around town are huge. I'm hoping to get back to IA in the morning but we'll see how that pans out.

Talked to my dad who lives in a little town outside of Mitchell SD. Said they received 25” of snow.
Plows worked on the roads but most are only one lane.

Back to back storms have absolutely buried much of South Dakota and northern Nebraska. Eastern South Dakota just caught up with this one storm! Can’t imagine what it looks like out in the open country along I-90 west towards rapid city.

At this time, I have light snow falling and a temp of 33F...getting the scrap from you guys up north!  I guess some snow falling during the daytime today will look somewhat like JAN or rather, late NOV...LOL

I received 0.8" of snow overnight as the upper low dropped southeast through eastern Iowa.  One of these days we'll get some real snow during daylight.

I didn't measure, but I would have guess just a shade under an inch here as well.  And amazingly, that was worthy of a 2 hour delay at my kids school.  The standard has changed since I was a kid.
