Dont worry though, we’ve got an ice age with our grand solar minimum due in 2017 if I remember correctly.

all that said, I’d rather have folks agree to disagree than to call folks on the forum deniers and lil’ Greta’s as the only people who are going to be impressed are the ones that are play audience under duress to your internal monologue. You know, the voices.

Just a heads up... we are going to be without the coastal radar at the end of January and early part of February.

The Seattle/Camano Island (KATX) and Coast/Langley Hill (KLGX) weather radars will be taken offline at separate times during January-February 2023. The outage for each radar will last for approximately 7 days followed by a day of testing. During this period, technicians will be completing the last of five major upgrade phases, known as the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, a 7-year program that replaces and refurbishes major components of the radar. These upgrades will not add to or change any of the current radar products. This fifth and final phase of the Service Life Extension Program replaces the generator, fuel tanks, and accompanying equipment. This activity is important to support the radar’s operation during periods of commercial power outages, specifically when hazardous weather is present

Planned Project Durations (Subject to Change)

  • KATX - Seattle/Camano Island Radar: Friday, January 13 - Friday, January 20

  • KLGX - Coast/Langley Hill Radar: Friday, January 27 - Friday, February 3

Once a radar is taken offline, it will remain offline until the upgrades are completed. NWS meteorologists will utilize supplemental techniques to monitor potentially hazardous weather including surface observations, satellites, and lightning detection networks. We thank you for your patience as we complete these important upgrades.

I would imagine the Puget Sounders here would love if the Fraser Canyon quadrupled in width overnight.  Or for those in the Central Willamette Valley, what if you had a gorge the size of the Columbia instead of Detroit/Santiam.

If the Fraser Canyon quadrupled in width, it would be a lot like the Columbia Gorge (it is currently a lot narrower), which often fails to deliver the cold air to the central and southern Willamette Valley. In other words, I don’t think it would make as much difference as you seem to think it would.

There's going to be a Dec 1990 style Arctic front with a beautiful, vertically stacked meso low over the hood canal, and we're going to be left with CASAG and KLGX 😐

Wow been busy with work so I hadn’t been paying a ton of attention to our rainfall total this month. Only at 2.57” as of this morning. Good chance based on the forecast coming up we only get about 3” MTD. Even drier than 2019 (3.95”). Can’t remember what our driest January in recent years is off the top of my head.
