TT-SEA
Just a heads up... we are going to be without the coastal radar at the end of January and early part of February. The Seattle/Camano Island (KATX) and Coast/Langley Hill (KLGX) weather radars will be taken offline at separate times during January-February 2023. The outage for each radar will last for approximately 7 days followed by a day of testing. During this period, technicians will be completing the last of five major upgrade phases, known as the NEXRAD Service Life Extension Program, a 7-year program that replaces and refurbishes major components of the radar. These upgrades will not add to or change any of the current radar products. This fifth and final phase of the Service Life Extension Program replaces the generator, fuel tanks, and accompanying equipment. This activity is important to support the radar’s operation during periods of commercial power outages, specifically when hazardous weather is present Planned Project Durations (Subject to Change) KATX - Seattle/Camano Island Radar: Friday, January 13 - Friday, January 20 KLGX - Coast/Langley Hill Radar: Friday, January 27 - Friday, February 3 Once a radar is taken offline, it will remain offline until the upgrades are completed. NWS meteorologists will utilize supplemental techniques to monitor potentially hazardous weather including surface observations, satellites, and lightning detection networks. We thank you for your patience as we complete these important upgrades. 2 2 Quote **REPORTED CONDITIONS AND ANOMALIES ARE NOT MEANT TO IMPLY ANYTHING ON A REGIONAL LEVEL UNLESS SPECIFICALLY STATED**
