Enumclaw just had a gust to 62.  That's getting pretty real.

This is like the third east windstorm this season? We had the mid November one, the late December one and now this one. I'm not sure I've seen south wind this strong in a while

Power is out here... and there is still very little wind up here.   This might be a longer one with many other areas in the Puget Sound area impacted this time.   And not sure how quickly they will be able to get out and make repairs with the wind still going.

As I said.  Not exactly peaceful.

I've had a number of wind events already this season.  Several with winds reaching the low 30s at least.

We’ve had a few strong offshore flow wind events in recent years. Most recent windstorm we’ve had that actually impressed me in terms of strength was September 2020. In terms of an actual classic strong southerly windstorm was January 6th 2019.

Currently 50.2 at my place. Very light winds here it’s crazy how Duvall is so shielded from strong east wind events.

2023 - 2024 Cold Season Stats

Total Snowfall - 0.75”

Max Snow Depth - 0.5”

Coldest High Temp - 21 (Jan 13)

Coldest Low Temp - 9 (Jan 13)

I wasn't here for September 2020, but we were on our way back from Central Oregon. We were in Sisters when suddenly the wind speed picked up like crazy and smoke started blowing into the area. On the drive home you could see the massive smoke plumes moving over the area and then the sky became completely red in the central Willamette Valley. Crazy experience.

I know everyone is interested in the east wind event and CAL rain but extended looks very promising. 1676678400-BqWLQtx2SoU.png

I've been keeping a very good eye on this.

Indeed.  East winds can be ridiculously isolated.  In this case they are more widespread than normal, but some places are almost always blocked from them.

It was obviously way worse in Oregon…but it was pretty crazy up here too. East winds were some of the strongest I’ve ever seen here…55-60mph. The smoke rolled in around sunset and the ash started falling. The wind and waves really tore up the docks on the west side of commencement bay and a crane in route to the port of Tacoma washed up on the waterfront right down the hill from my house.

Still basically no wind here either.    We were down at Safeway in North Bend and it's windy but not too crazy.   Power is back on here and in North Bend.   No idea how they restored it so fast.   Mild winter evening for sure... I was out with the dog just now in shorts and barefoot on the deck and was not in a rush to get inside.

That was a weird event.  That whole year was just stranger than fiction in so many ways.

I must be right in line to get chilly air from the pass here.  46 while many other places fairly close are around 50.

That was probably the most wild anomalous weather event of the year. There was a lot more interesting extremes in 2021 and 2022 IMO. However in terms of the real world…yeah 2020 life and society really changed significantly and 3 years later  it has still been weird.

Very impressive GEFS extended. Just like CFS.

Looks like the pattern is locking there.

Maybe a turd for the first half of the month and something good for the second half.

Dead calm here and 37.5. Tonight is a text book example of cold pooling up the east side of Olympics caused by evaporation cooling.

The microclimates over there are really interesting. It's milder now too, 45 outside with the wind roaring. Lots of power outages here as well. Felt cold in the afternoon, it was only around 40 degrees with sideways rain.

Besides mother nature, politics, and Covid the whole year was just bizarre for me.  Probably many others too.

Yep.

Don't think we are going to see even a drop of rain from this front here... air is way too dry.   Precip is getting eaten up quickly as it moves north.

Not sure what's going on really.  Most places north of here are 50ish.  Maybe some evaporative cooling entering into it.
