That's pretty real in terms of cold.Ā  I think the coldest places in the lower 48 have a monthly norm of about 5 in January, so this is up there with the big boys for December.

If it's low to mid 30s over there with this pattern I would think a normal max in the mid 20s doesn't seem out of whack at all for that area.Ā  Very impressive.

December 2021 was 17.0 for average and February 2019 was 15.4. December 2016 14.6 averageĀ

Yep this area and the Methow valley are the coldest spots.Ā  My area mixes out faster but it's better for marginal snow level days like today just because of the elevation.Ā  Just checked another station 1 mile from cabin and the everage temp last month came in at 14.7 degrees!

Do they have a long period of record for that station that is accessible?Ā  If not Omak came in at 19.6 so a 5 degree correction applied to the Omak records might give a fair idea of monthly averages for your cabin going back a ways.

Death To Warm Anomalies!

Ā

Winter 2023-24 stats

Ā

Total Snowfall = 1.0"

Day with 1" or more snow depth = 1

Total Hail = 0.0

Total Ice = 0.2

Coldest Low = 13

Lows 32 or below = 45

Highs 32 or below = 3

Lows 20 or below = 3

Highs 40 or below = 9

As an aside...it is incredibly dumb they don't do snowfall records for places like Omak any longer.Ā  Obviously some idiotic bureaucratic decision made by somebody with no appreciation for weather.

The personal station I check goes back to 2012. I didn't check lost lake yet, that one is a government station. I have noticed there is normally a 7-10 degree difference in temperature compared to omak. And more like 10-20 degrees colder in summer than omak. We have seen 90 in omak driving through and it be 70 -75 at cabin 1 hr later when we arrive.Ā

We need a dozer like that sooooooo bad. Or any dozer, really.Ā

Dozer is the only way to roll when you have almost 1 mile to plow. Mine is a d6 so much larger than needed but it will clear the road in 1 pass and you can't stop it. My plow truck works good but it's really hard on it over there.

I was noticing that too. The Valley seems to largely get skunked. It is modelled to be significantly warmer IMBY. Quite the turnabout from what has been the norm recently.

It's called clown range for a reason.

We need something to start showing up in the models. This 44 degree constant light rain day after day is wearing me down. I miss my yard color and sunny warm daysā€¦If we are not going to get cold and snow letā€™s just end it now and get spring going.Ā

18z delays a couple days vs 12z but that lines up with EPS timing better. it certainly looks like it wants to drop the hammer at the end. Ignoring the cutoffs and stupid details that will obviously get figured out in time, this run is still a win imo.Ā
Ā

EDIT: it has been duly pointed out that my words are wrong. The correct phrase is most likely ā€œthis pattern evolution looks promising and is in line with the EPS timing that would potentially deliver some modestly cold air the first week of Februaryā€

Lol, Iā€™m not missing the weather back home! Ā
although we had some gray days, the past few days have been fantastic Ā here in Az. Ā A little skiing yesterday at Snowbowl in Flagstaff. Ā Weather was perfect. It did drop into the 20s overnightā€¦.even in Prescott where Iā€™m staying. Ā  Watson lake and D.A. Ranch (winery) are the other two photosĀ

I really donā€™t want to come home again. Ā Weather seems to always be interesting here.Ā
