I was just gonna say that Bellingham may have hit 60F in places today.  I saw some temp gauges at 59F and 58F. :D  I used to live in Bellingham and having hot days in winter and spring was common.  We seemed to get to 70F quicker then a lot of places too... calendar wise.

It may have seemed that way, but I'm not sure the down sloping generally has quite enough power (for whatever reason) to push the airport to 70F. Of the 5 major SEA NWS stations, BLI has the latest average first 70F. The 1990-2020 average date for the first 70 degree day for BLI is 4/22 while the other stations are:

  • SEA: 4/15
  • OLM: 4/5
  • HQM (Hoquiam): 4/18
  • UIL (Quillayute): 4/20

The only stations that have later first 70F days are stations you'd expect (higher elevation and closer to the water) like Sequim (May 8 ) and Stampede Pass (May 16). I was honestly kind of surprised how early the coast regions hit 70F, especially Hoquiam.

I wouldn't bet against February.   Its about as consistent as August is on the flip side.

Where are you?

Staying at an Air Bnb like 5 miles south of Peshastin. Since we are all under 25 it was the closest one we could find to Leavenworth that allowed people under 25.

Peshastin is only at 1,000 feet.    That is some impressive snow for that elevation given the pattern lately.

The Air Bnb we are staying at is actually at 1,700 feet. But we are at a bar in the town right now and the town seems like it has almost as much as where we are staying.

The first 2/3 of Jan 1950 was really missing those cold, clear nights Jim loves.

I don't think we needed them in that case.  I'm sure it did get clear on the morning that some places dropped well below zero during that period though.

Peshastin is much drier than Leavenworth though.  A really sharp transition zone there.  That town is actually on my list of places I would like to live.

Sure, but the entirety of central/north cascades towns have gotten absolutely crushed this year so far. These past few days have been the first real melting pattern we’ve had since almost october

The GFS really wants to dig that trough back into the desert SW next weekend... its been quite consistent.    It will be interesting to see if the ECMWF/EPS goes in that direction.

GFS is just one cold shot after another.  Nothing Earth shattering, but certainly chilly.

Dude we’ve gotten almost 2 inches of rain up there today at 34 degrees. That snowpack is going to be an absolute block once it re freezes.

That amount of rain in that area this time of year is very rare and bizarre.
