That event was nothing short of jaw dropping.  I read there was an unofficial backyard temp reading of -10 in Woodland Park in Seattle, and a -15 in Skagit County.  Fraser River froze over very solidly.  And of course about 4 feet of snow in a one week period in Seattle.  It was so cold a meat market in Seattle was forced to use saws and axes to cut the meat they sold to customers.

Would be great to have a repeat in a few weeks!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

I’m just saying the signal for the last few days of January and first week of February is about as good as it gets this far out.

I've just been going through a bunch of old newspapers for the past few hours. Looks like there were drifts of snow up to 5 feet deep in Cedar Mill in early February 1950 (pretty good approximation for my location). And an unofficial reading of -10 in Aloha, an official reading of -18 in Forest Grove and -7 in Beaverton.

12z EPS. Definitely some promise showing up in the long range. A shame we will waste much of the mid-winter low sun angles of January with mild weather once again, good time to focus on the long game.

And it makes a huge difference what time of year we get hit. I've always wondered how much more bad a** February 19 would of been if it had been in December.  Probably a few degrees colder during the day.

My sick rooster was looking like he was going to die lastnight and he looked like he was in pain so I crushed up a little pain pill I had with some Tylenol and some antibiotics lastnight and gave that to him and  To my surprise he crowed this morning and looks to be doing better!!

Right now the timing looks to be the last few days of January…but the ways these things play out I wouldn’t be surprised if things got delayed a bit into early February. So pretty much the same time as that one. Sucks we won’t manage much if anything out of this month but the events last month did come during the lowest sun angle period of the year atleast.

Man they don't make stuff like they used to.

My ambient weather station rain guage is broken and  the unit is 2 years old.

My Davis pro station is 18 years old yes 18! And everything still works. I do not like the ambient,  difficult to navigate and figure out all the features.

I think there is a chance we see something the last 3-4 days of the month. But we ll see. Could be another big February regardless.

Is it difficult to take care of chickens and roosters?  My wife and I are considering building a coop and getting some for the fresh eggs.

We can still put up some top tier cold in early February too, so the timing of this isn’t bad at all.
