Drought monitor is showing much more color for the region then I expected including extreme drought for much of eastern Oregon. I know it hasn't been as wet, but I really didn't expect this. I've come to view these maps with a bit of suspicion. They almost always show the vast majority of the West as in some sort of drought conditions, and even areas that we know are close to normal for precip often show up as "abnormally dry". It's definitely been droughty for much of the West in recent years, but I think part of the issue is these maps maybe use the past 50-60 years as baseline, and the latter half of the 20th century was unusually wet for many areas. May not reflect true historical norms. 1 Quote A forum for the end of the world.
