December Weather In the PNW

BLI snowman

Recommended Posts

Seems like this last section of the heavy cell is turning back to sleet now. I may be done with the snow, but it was a fun little burst.

Yeah I just looked back outside and it seemed like it was sleeting again.

It was gorgeous big flakes falling most of our walk the last hour though. I will take it on Christmas Eve!

Just arrived at our Christmas party in North Seattle, about an inch on the ground, moderate snow with snow covered roads. Had a pickup almost crash in front of us. Started in north Everett.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Maybe half an inch here... dry air limiting the snow accumulation.

26 with a dewpoint of 24 and an east wind blowing and drifting the snow around.

Radar looks somewhat disappointing though.

My Dad in Silverton has gotten quite a bit of ZR, turned to snow for a bit in the past hour. Looks like it’s turned to snow up at my place for the past hour and down to 30 as precip ends. This reminds me of a bit better version of 1/3/16.

Over an inch here, sleet now mixing in. Precip much lighter now. It's been a ton of fun, no complaints from me. Best of luck to those up north. Let's make it a good regional event.

NWS seems to think it keeps up through 9pm but I don’t see anything behind this band.

But yeah no complaints here. I was honestly expecting nothing.

Just so ya know I’m thinking of you. Do what I do when I’m in the snow shadow up here I just watch the web cams and feel part of the excitement. Merry Christmas Eve

It was a pretty good year last year. The Central Willamette Valley hasn't had a big daddy snowstorm in a long time but this one was always marginal anyway.

Your family must be impressed though. Snow for Christmas

They had a long, spray-filled drive from Portland so they are not singing praises of Christmas snow yet.    Bad traffic and bad drivers.

It was nice and powdery for the last 20 minutes of their drive though.  :)

5” at Salem on 12/14/2016, events bigger than that are pretty rare.

Way more significant event than I expected. Good to see, Oregon did way better than I was expecting, Washington not as much.

Thinking the snow totals predicted by the models for this area are way overstated.   HRRR shows we are at the peak right now.

Yeah I don't see too much more beyond this band either. I think this band moved in quick and got out quick.

Yes, what I posted way earlier and Jesse was a dikk. Usual stuff.

Half inch here. Which is fine, expected nothing. I got absolutely nothing on 1/3/16 with the warm tongue.
