12/28 - 12/29 Plains/MW/GL's Snow Event

1.9” report in Dubuque. Mark one down in the books for East Dubzz. On that note, I don’t want any more of these storm systems this year, unless we get a big one where these just add snow depth.

This is amazing. Absolutely beautiful out. Up to 5.5” as it continues to pour down. I’m actually just walking around with my daughter right now enjoying this.

Estimating my total at 5.5." Me being the idiot I am cleared my snow board without measuring it(last measurement was 4.8), so that's real nice.

 

EDIT: Found a spot(elevated surface) that had 5.3" of snow on it, so that's gonna be my total for the event.

Spotter report of 6 inches in Cedar Rapids. I will measure again in a little while. Think I should be fairly close to if not right at 6 inches for a total.

Awesome to see IA members light up the board! Glad you guys are cashin’ in with this one and finally hit the jackpot. Isn’t it fun to be in the heart of a snow storm? Even though Chi hasn’t hit the big one yet, I’ve enjoyed back to back days of day time snows. Picked up close to an inch of fluff today so under performed from this one.

It’s still snowing here but should be done soon. We got up to 6”. It just poured down snow. Got an inch in just about 45 minutes. It was awesome.

I measured 6.1 inches in Cedar Rapids at 8:45PM. Light snow is still falling here so I will take a measurement for a total in the morning. This has been an impressive little storm system. 24 hours ago, I was thinking we would get 3-4 inches. Now, I have over 6 inches and more falling right now.

You're in the Cedar Rapids area right? There are reports of 6 inches in Cedar Rapids, maybe recheck measurement?

7.5” reported in Solon. That appears to be the winner. Only 10 Miles from where I live. But I’m very happy with the 6” we got.

BTW the NAM is showing a trace to an inch for much of Iowa on Sunday. In fact it has some extremely weird very isolated spots getting several inches. It makes no sense but the 3k nam seems to have a plausible solution of up to an inch

I finished with 5.4".  My liquid total is 0.25", giving me a ratio of 21:1.  Model consensus has nailed the qpf for each of the three snow events.  This was the first time I've fired up the snowblower in a couple years.

 

I didn't think there would be a bunch of 6-7" totals, so I'm impressed.  I'd really like to know what the final totals are around Marshalltown in central Iowa.  A Marshalltown spotter reported 3.8" already at noon, but there has not been another report from the area.

For a total measurement I got 6.0 inches for a total in Cedar Rapids. This was an impressive system. Did much better than I thought we would. Now we have established a deep snow pack as the deep freeze moves in. On to the next storm!

Congrats IA peeps! The 2-day, 2-wave total here in Marshall was a respectable 4.7" taking mby over 2 feet for the month. 2nd December to reach that high bar, tho this one is by far the more enjoyable of the two!

My 2 day total was 7.9" These 2 waves worked out really well here.

Continuing to snow here with a temperature of 8 below zero.

 

Funny how 8 below doesn't feel that different from 8 above; while one can easily tell the difference between 70 F & 54 F.

That snowstorm didn't quite work out as expected; as I ended up with just 2.5" for the three days; (though it is snowing again lightly as I type).

 

Even the Rapid City WSO did better with 3.0"; as did the Airport with 3.5".

 

9.5" of snow for December 2017 and 10.4" on the season here.

 

Current snow depth about 4.3".
