Anti Marine Layer
At the equator, the June Solstice and December Solstice both have the lowest sun angles of the year, but the hours of daylight stays constant at about 12 hours and 7 minutes the entire year. They still have an earliest sunrise/sunset around November 3 which is about 30 minutes earlier than the latest sunrise/sunset on February 11. Thunder98
Just had a very shallow 3.3 Earthquake at 10:04AM in Orcutt. It was a strong jolt for 15 seconds.
Anti Marine Layer
June Gloom before Christmas? The storm should give us better air quality and more December-like weather.
Anti Marine Layer
Lots of haze today with Santa Ana Mountains barely visible from Lake Forest and clearly in the haze at Rancho Santa Margarita Lake, but we can kiss the inversion goodbye for Christmas as the colder air aloft moves in with the weak storm. Anti Marine Layer
It's a foggy Christmas Eve. Rudolph will be needed.
Anti Marine Layer
Still extremely hazy with the Santa Ana Mountains not even visible. However, the demolition of the marine layer inversion should be a good present.
Anti Marine Layer
Looks like it won't quite be so foggy tonight for Santa as the marine layer rapidly deepens to 5000 feet.
Thunder98
It's windy and drizzly right now with the strong push of the marine layer. Most of today was very clear
Anti Marine Layer
Equation of Time will reach zero tonight, meaning solar noon will be 12:00 PM in Greenwich, England. In early November it was 11:43 AM. It has shifted from 11:34 AM to 11:50 AM in the same amount of time for Lake Forest, but it still too early (before 12 PM) due to Southern California being too far east for the Pacific Time Zone. Marine layer has already deepened up to 3000, but it looks like the frontal passage will be needed to finally get rid of the haze, which has kept visibility between 3 to 4 miles today even after the fog burned off. Anti Marine Layer
Another downpour here with Lake Forest up to 0.21" so far for this storm.
Anti Marine Layer
Julian webcam currently shows snow falling as it's much colder than the 64 F of yesterday and the inversion that brought the haze is gone.
Anti Marine Layer
Downtown L.A. got a stunning total of nothing from this storm.
Thunder98
Orcutt got 0.55 from this storm, way overperformed the forecast of 0.15".
Anti Marine Layer
Got some good downpours last night and this morning, but even with the heavy rain at times, it did not amount to much. Looks like we will not see any measurable rain for the remainder of 2018. Christmas has a sunset of 4:48 PM here, which is later than Thanksgiving when the sun set at 4:44 PM. This Friday will have a sunset of 4:50 PM, which will be the first time since November 11 that the sun goes down at 4:50 PM or later. Sunrise, of course, continues to get later and will not return to the Winter Solstice time until about January 25, but by then the evenings will be quite a bit lighter with sunset about 5:15 PM. Anti Marine Layer
Deep marine layer again today, but this should be the last time in 2018.
Anti Marine Layer
Santa Ana Winds have started here, just a few hours after lots of cumulus clouds at sunset.
Anti Marine Layer
Cold Santa Ana winds are a nuisance. No Red Flag Warning with these winds, but if we don't get any major rainfall soon, the fire danger could significantly increase by mid January. Anti Marine Layer
Low clouds are coming in as marine layer develops for its final time of 2018. Very strong Santa Ana Winds are then forecast for the Rose Parade.
Thunder98
A forecast high of only 36F in St. George, Utah. Wow
Anti Marine Layer
Marine layer has exploded well into Arizona this morning after breaking over the mountains earlier this morning. Should be interesting to see how developing Santa Ana Winds will push all of this stuff out.
Anti Marine Layer
Santa Ana Winds are starting even with lots of clouds remaining, but the clouds are thinning out.
