February 5th-6th Midwest Snow Storm

Flake size is slowly, slowly upgrading. Still only one or two steps above pixie dust... I've got 1.2" since the snow started.

Update: It's absolutely dumping small flakes here, visibility is 1/4-1/8th of a mile. Heck this may even be 1"/hr despite the mediocre flakes.

Down to flurries now. Weenie band is a bit wider but should only bring heavy snow here for 5-10 minutes. While the snow was low-ratio and flakes were tiny af, it was nice to have snow that wasn't wind-driven for once so hills are finally looking white. And because it was wetter it's not gonna compact. Excited to see what tomorrow afternoon brings us. This is the first truly active pattern we have been in here since 2015 and I am loving it even though each individual event isn't that impressive.

In-laws live in Clive,IA. sounds like I-35 is a mess with a couple big accidents

Yep-- the better half had a doc appointment -- many cars stuck on Hickman Rd which runs through Clive....

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

As NWLinn posted, this is easily the best snow we've seen so far.  Brighter returns are over us on radar.  Flake size was pixie dust, now it's small to medium.  It's so much more enjoyable to watch snow fall when I can actually see the flakes.

There's a band of yellow on radar in southeast Iowa.  I bet it's really dumping under that.

Nice snowfall here in Rock Island. Based on just a finger measurement, but I'm guessing we're at an inch already at least. Not big flakes right now, but coming down at a good rate.

HRRR has about 4-5 more hours of snow here, so I think 3-5" is definitely the right forecast. Guessing it ends up somewhere around 4", but that just depends how these bands change and whatnot as they move east.

Yellow reflectivities about to make it here. Should make for a fun 5 minutes. I can see the sun thru the clouds so I expect nothing more after this last band. Gonna wait till we get back to light snow before I take my final measurement.

GFS really seemed to nail the better placement of the heavy snow band south of I80.  It's really coming down there.  We are back to light snow here with heavier bands to my north and south.

Yup, I'm still in some decent stuff up here, not as good as it was earlier, but its still pretty good. Relative screw zone in between CR/IC, at least per radar.

Starting to taper off now. Flakes were freaking huge, that would've come in handy earlier. Still a nice little event since we're getting the higher end of what models had.

Sitting at 1.9 inches here at 3pm.  We're in a lull now, but heavier bands are moving back in.  I'm still thinking 4 here for a total.

I just finally got out to measure and we are just shy of 3".  I was surprised it was that much already.  I have to imagine the bands just to my south are already at least an inch more than that.  Looks like 4-5" here will be a good bet. Snow just picked back up a touch.

Pretty spot on with what I measured.  I really want to see snow totals down by Washington.

Didn't get the inch that I hoped. 0.8" on my car. Maybe the airport got more. Down to flurries now & I can see blue sky off in the distance. Grass is almost covered, even an additional half inch will cover it. Hoping the models showing >2" tomorrow verify, cuz a depth like that may actually allow temps on Thursday to not get that much above freezing.

5.8" near Ames.

Medium to large flakes are increasing here as some nice bands move through, easily our best flakes so far.

What stumps me is why were all the CAMs so committed to a hwy 30 jackpot. The GFS and RGEM were the only ones that didn't show that. HRRR only adjusted after the band had already set up there. The HRRR still shows us getting 3-4 more inches as well, that thing has had awful performance with this event.
