wx_statman
Following the format of the other thread, I decided to create a post for WA as well. I figured why not. I already have all the tabs pulled up, so all I have to do is switch the state selection. Enjoy! Top 5 monthly extremes across all WA stations, sorted by station. For reference: http://theweatherforums.com/index.php/topic/1761-some-oregon-monthly-extremes/ Highest one-month average maximum: 104.0 JUL 1906 Mottinger101.9 JUL 1906 Zindel101.8 JUL 1906 Kennewick101.2 JUL 1906 Touchet101.0 AUG 1967 Lower Granite Dam Lowest one-month average minimum: -17.4 JAN 1949 Chewelah-12.0 JAN 1930 Twisp 10W-11.7 JAN 1950 Winthrop-11.6 JAN 1937 Deer Park-10.0 JAN 1950 Chesaw Highest one-month mean: 86.6 JUL 1906 Zindel86.3 JUL 1906 Kennewick85.0 JUL 1906 Mottinger84.3 JUL 1941 Wahluke83.5 JUL 1960 Priest Rapids Dam Lowest one-month mean: -0.3 JAN 1949 Chewelah0.4 JAN 1950 Chesaw0.6 JAN 1950 Lemanasky Lake1.0 JAN 1950 Winthrop1.3 JAN 1950 Conconully Highest one-month precipitation: 64.60 NOV 2006 June Lake (Snotel)60.00 NOV 2006 Swift Creek (Snotel)57.04 DEC 1933 Cougar 6E54.42 DEC 1933 Wynoochee Oxbow52.53 DEC 1933 Canto Highest one-month snowfall: 359.0 JAN 1925 Rainier Paradise265.0 JAN 1964 Snoqualmie Pass243.5 DEC 1933 Chiwawa River236.5 JAN 1990 Stevens Pass230.1 JAN 1972 Stampede Pass
Phil
I take it July 1906 was a scorcher. wx_statman
I take it July 1906 was a scorcher. Bigtime. Incredible anomaly, especially for the era. Downtown Portland had separate heat waves bring 101 and 98. The all-time record was only 102 at that point and the regional climate was ~3F cooler than today. Wacky.
Scott
Highest one-month snowfall: 359.0 JAN 1925 Rainier Paradise265.0 JAN 1964 Snoqualmie Pass243.5 DEC 1933 Chiwawa River236.5 JAN 1990 Stevens Pass230.1 JAN 1972 Stampede PassMount Baker Ski Area could be on the list, but it's not a WRCC station. I can only find it broken out by month since 2005 though. Considering the below only covers 12 years of data, it is pretty impressive. Here are the months in the last 12 years where snowfall exceeded 230 inches: 271 JAN 2005269 MAR 2017260 MAR 2012251 DEC 2012250 NOV 2006237 NOV 2009 January 2018 received 225 inches, which is pretty impressive as well. 359.0 JAN 1925 Rainier Paradise Snowfall was probably even higher. The data from January 1925 has three missing days on the 17th, 19th, and 31st (all other days that month reported precipitation). Longmire, which is usually drier than Rainier Paradise had 1.16 inches of precipitation on the 31st. It surely snowed at Rainier Paradise on the 31st.

Yeah, I'm only using data that's available through NOAA's ACIS database. It includes a bunch of datasets (COOP, ASOS, RAWS, Snotel, CoCoRaHS, etc) but apparently not ski areas. I believe it was the same Mt. Baker station you're referencing that set the world record snowfall during the 1998-99 season (although a number of Japanese stations were later discovered to have even greater seasonal totals on their books, but that's a different subject). Anti Marine Layer
June Lake? That's also a place in California. We stayed there (the California one) when I was a kid and that time I really loved Curious George books. One book talked about how he jumped from a balcony into the soft grass below. I was ready to jump from the second floor balcony of the condo we stayed at and it's a good thing I didn't.

Since 2005 the snowfall has been taken by the ski resort.
