Some Washington monthly extremes

Following the format of the other thread, I decided to create a post for WA as well. I figured why not. I already have all the tabs pulled up, so all I have to do is switch the state selection. Enjoy!

Mount Baker Ski Area could be on the list, but it's not a WRCC station.  I can only find it broken out by month since 2005 though.  Considering the below only covers 12 years of data, it is pretty impressive.  Here are the months in the last 12 years where snowfall exceeded 230 inches:

271 JAN 2005

269 MAR 2017

260 MAR 2012

251 DEC 2012

250 NOV 2006

237 NOV 2009

January 2018 received 225 inches, which is pretty impressive as well.

359.0 JAN 1925 Rainier Paradise

Snowfall was probably even higher.  The data from January 1925 has three missing days on the 17th, 19th, and 31st (all other days that month reported precipitation).  Longmire, which is usually drier than Rainier Paradise had 1.16 inches of precipitation on the 31st.  It surely snowed at Rainier Paradise on the 31st.

Yeah, I'm only using data that's available through NOAA's ACIS database. It includes a bunch of datasets (COOP, ASOS, RAWS, Snotel, CoCoRaHS, etc) but apparently not ski areas. I believe it was the same Mt. Baker station you're referencing that set the world record snowfall during the 1998-99 season (although a number of Japanese stations were later discovered to have even greater seasonal totals on their books, but that's a different subject).

June Lake? That's also a place in California.

We stayed there (the California one) when I was a kid and that time I really loved Curious George books. One book talked about how he jumped from a balcony into the soft grass below. I was ready to jump from the second floor balcony of the condo we stayed at and it's a good thing I didn't.

Different station, but close to each other.  The 1998-1999 station was a WSDOT station.   Since 2005 the snowfall has been taken by the ski resort.
