PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

Actually pretty shocked there isn’t even a single trace of snow left from this morning here at home, it hasn’t gotten above 35 today! Thinking the sun must’ve came out at some point and melted it all. Looked really promising for a solid 1-2” this morning when that band was developing and having some of it stick around but nope. Weenie mode engaged!!

Snow should be pretty close to us soon

Our best hope is the radar really blowing up over us just around sunset or after when that modified arctic air runs into this warm moist maritime air over us. If we are lucky the temp will get close to freezing soon after that and we get fast accumulations.

The NWS should issue a snow advisory from seattle north for 1-2 inches and a warning south for 2-4. Olympia west towards chris could see more.

Ya, I don't know about that, things went pretty anemic as good banding attempted to move through here, although there wasn't supposed to be any snow here during the afternoon anyways.  So what did fall was just a bonus.

reading the radar tea leaves looks like some stuff rotating on shore that should break the west side's drought around sunset

Your dynamics (hopefully) are lying in wait. If Hillsboro had switched to a stiff NE breeze with falling DP’s, then I’d be a little worried if things weren’t popping off.

Thursday snow forecast for Western Washington appears to be  next to nothing for the central sound. Some pretty decent numbers for the Peninsula.  I am honestly surprised that they might even get that much!  Coming into this, I didn't think this snow even would amount to much of anything, and that has held up for the most part.  It's a shame our days of snow are quickly dwindling.

The radar also shows some interesting movement and it does pick up some of the snowfall.  So check that out. Hope everyone has a good day.

My half inch all melted before the temp got above freezing or there was a lick of sun. Think the fact the ground was muddy underneath combined with the high sun angles was all it took.

That stuff over Vancouver is just virga. Fraser outflow is eating the precip as an afternoon snack. It’s an old story.

Models show some flurries should make it down to the surface later tonight, but they won’t amount to much. Our big chance is this weekend.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Looks like the euro was about 4-5 degrees to warm for this area today.

ECMWF showed 38 at SEA and it looks like it got up to at least 37.   I think the models might have a tough time with your area and cold air damming.
