And now the ECMWF shows precip making it into the Seattle area overnight.

This is total snow... so have to subtract previous map for amounts going forward.   Its shows a general area of .5 to 1 inch tonight across all of King County.

Coworker in Estacada near Portland shared a bunch of snow photos and says it's still coming down. She doesn't care for snow though.

At my location I regret not checking the temperature at midnight. I fell asleep too soon. We were hovering just above 32.5 when I went to bed. So we probably will have a subfreezing day. The highest temp we had was 24F and it was falling bellow 23F half an hour ago when I checked. So probably sub freezing but I don't want to say for sure. We didn't even have a sun angle distortion in the mid morning since my monitor faces south.

My son briefly played in the snow when he came home but went inside to fill up on hot cocoa.

There has been almost no melting today even though it hasn't snowed since morning.

Even though I’m gone I’m still hoping I can somehow get some snow going into this cold just so I can score some lower temps from this cold snap and maybe have some snow on the ground when I get back.

2023 - 2024 Cold Season Stats

Total Snowfall - 0.75”

Max Snow Depth - 0.5”

Coldest High Temp - 21 (Jan 13)

Coldest Low Temp - 9 (Jan 13)

Number of Freezes - 48

Sub-40 highs - 12

Highs 32 or lower - 3

Interesting that the ECMWF shows precip spreading farther north and east into Seattle when the low makes steady progress to the southwest from now through tomorrow morning.

I swear the low looks like it's moving to the NE on the IR imagery...

Saturday night/Sunday event

Such a strange system... brings 2-3 inches of snow in a short time during the night and before dawn the SW wind is gusting to about 35 mph across all of the Seattle area and the temp is in the mid to upper 30 by 7 a.m.   But it doesn't actually warm up that much and its not a true transition event.    Its a transition from the pre-existing dry air left over from this arctic air mass immediately to a polar maritime air mass.
