Iffy at best.

Not saying it will happen, just noting that it's approaching that time of year again.

Subfreezing day with just twenty minutes left.

@MWGlast you mentioned flakes, any sticking?

Just woke up to let my dog out and light snow still going but just to surface no roads that I could see. Let’s see in the morning!

Several shots at lowland snow/ice coming for PDX. The 6z GFS and GEFS really upped the ante for that. Weagle's AFD was a must read mentioning a situation exactly like we just had with a low stalling at the mouth of the Columbia River and due to the snow pack we stay cold for much longer into March. Unreal.

6z GFS Snowfall totals through 4 AM Tuesday.

But there is also some more snow from Sunday evening through Monday evening.

It’s a really weird situation…it’s actually kind of similar to late February/early March 2019. After the big overrunning event on the 11th…temps never really rebounded to normal for awhile. Had high temps struggling to reach 40 with quite a few marginal wet snows afterwards. Will probably be a few sub 40 high temps on and off with slushy accumulations in the future.

The 10:1 snow maps on the euro are just ridiculous on last nights run. Wouldn’t be nearly as much as shown…but really impressive still for going into early spring. Could also be similar atleast IMBY to what we saw in late November/early December this winter. Highs in the mid to upper 30s with wet snow accumulations several days in a row.

Pressure Gradients

2/24/23 6:29 AM
UPDATE
Easterly gradients continue to persist just under -8mb which is moderately strong. Strong east winds remain relentless east of I-205 and along the West Hills. Elsewhere breezy conditions are found throughout the metro area. It's an ICY cold bitter wind! Looking at surface winds throughout the Willamette Valley indicate an unusually strong cold northerly flow all the way down to nearly Medford. I do not remember the last time if ever that I've seen the Medford to Eugene gradient at +7.0mb (northerly flow)! This arctic blast has some real teeth to it!

[Gorge/Gap Gradients]
PDX-DLS: -7.7mb
TTD-DLS: -7.1mb
[Cross Cascade Gradients]

Cottonwood California which is about 15 miles south of Redding on I5 is reporting 8" of snow currently

That's impressive, considering that in most years they or Red Bluff are sort of the border of snow when going south I-5. South of that snow is extremely rare. Redding doesn't get snow every year but they can get good events, but once you get to Cottonwood or Red Bluff it's usually just falling flakes at that.

Garfield County/Pomeroy, WA:

2023-2024 Snowfall totals: 14.3 inches

HIghest snow total (per event): 5.8 inches total 1/11/24 - 1/12/24.

C'mon....you gotta have something to measure with. That's probably at least a quarter to a half inch on the table.

Willamette valley lows were mostly disappointing because of the winds. Shouldn’t be as big of an issue today. Could see some lows before midnight even.

Wind is pretty light up here. Hit 14 before midnight and 12 about 5am, up to 14 now under clear skies.

Looks like we’re down to -0.9F MTD as of yesterday. Could finish around -1.5F if I had to guess maybe a bit cooler even. Colder than normal winter is a certainty.

PDX is running -1.2

EUG -2.2

SLE -2.6

Since the measurement starts above the 0 are we calling that half an inch?
