PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

Recommended Posts

Took a drive up above my house last night to about 1300’ there is about a foot of snow there. Pretty impressive. I can get up to 2100’ but roads are not maintained and I am going to wait until I have another rig to team up with.  I bet there is 2’ up that high with more to come.

Looks like it’s just my grid down so far. The snow lessened for a few minutes and it got brighter, but now it’s dumping down again!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Compared to most places in the Seattle area we actually have done pretty good this year. Little bit of elevation for all the marginal events this winter really helped. We were never in the bullseye of any particular event this winter for the most part but managed a bit of snow just about every time.

Yeah, I know we have several small events, but my brother in south Everett/Mukilteo seems to always have more snow and he doesn't even like it as much as I do!

.40 in Pomeroy. Didn't expect snow so I had to measure on my table instead.

Arlington SD was 2hrs late but just called it a day as well. The only school hanging tough with a 2hr delay in my general area is Marysville now.

Most people have kids who throw a fit to get out and play in the snow, I have a dog who does that.  I didn’t get video but she stood at the back door and carried on like a husky this morning!

Snow depth now 20”. I’ll have to check and see what we hit last December(2021), but we have to be close.

180’. Downtown Everett sucks for marginal events. I’m hoping if it sticks over my area a bit it can change back to snow

Yeah, we’re not generally the best place in the lowlands for snow…but not the worst either. We usually do quite a bit better than places like auburn, sumner fife and puyallup. I do sometimes wish I lived somewhere a bit better…and I’m actually thinking about it. Snow chances are part of my consideration to move in the next couple years…but also to be in a more centralized location for work. I drive anywhere from Marysville to Olympia on a daily basis so being somewhere more in the middle of the Seattle metro would be nice to just cut down on my commute.

Wow incredible, i'm disappointed in the performance the last few days at my place. It was looking like it might get close to what you would but just not enough moisture. We have been cold enough the entire time. Been a bunch of missed opportunities in the Puget sound the ,last week. It worked out perfect for your area.  I really wished that places like Jim area would score.

Just wasn’t our time here in the Puget sound. Oregon was due for a big event…although north of Everett has done well.

Based on my expectations last night and the night before that, and the time before that, and the setup before that...

I'm giving this winter a C-.  I've had a total of 5.2 inches here this winter, but I have been teased by the best of them.  I'm not going out on another date with her until next season.

Even though my area did ok i'm frustrated for the entire area because i know how good it could of been for the entire area.

We were very close to a feb 2019 repeat.

Pretty sure that’s the CZ setting up over Snohomish County. Wife tells me “it’s starting to turn to snow I think” at home. Looks like wet snow and chunky rain here in Edmonds right now.

Normally you would have much more, you get snow when i do much of the time.

Would’ve figured you had more than me on the peninsula. 7.6” here this winter.

The euro has been horrible since Saturday down here at the lowest elevations.  It has shown up to 5” at least and almost always at least some accumulation. We haven’t had anything more than a wet mix since Saturday.

It’s been decent here. Total bust just to my south in Whatcom County for the most part, underestimating how sea breezes will make for cold rain at the lowest elevations. Looks like it finally redeemed itself this morning.

Bottom line is that even the best of models really struggle with marginal setups like this.
