Afraid I have to call Photo-chop B.S. on that shot, which is too bad since there are many jaw-dropping photos from the recent storm down there that stand on their own quite well. The foreground is Ventura, but the background is pasted in from somewhere else. There are no high mountains like that -- snowcapped or otherwise -- visible behind the Ventura foothills, no matter how long a telephoto lens you use. Here is a Google Maps view from the pier:

Thanks for this. Seems like there’s been a lot of deep faked pics from the storms in California floating around lately. It’s a shame because it detracts from how impressive things have actually been down there.

Remarkably persistent CZ. Still snowing moderately at home. Expecting grassy surfaces to have a couple inches out of this. Hoping it persists long enough to experience it a bit when I’m off work in an hour but with my luck lately I doubt it lol

great shot, kinda looks like the French Riviera when the Alps are covered

That shot that was posted above with the snow-capped mountains does not look like Ventura to me at all. Even the foothills behind the city with all the homes on it are too steep and too high for the area. The shot of the pier that Eujunga posted above is definitely Ventura, and you will notice that the background hills are considerably lower in elevation.

Looks like the first 7-10 days of March should end up well below average. Where does it go from there Andrew? @SilverFallsAndrew

Not really amounting to anything, but it’s impressive to see temps holding in the upper 30s this afternoon with a rain/snow mix at times.

Been snowing almost all day here since 830 AM. Just a bit too warm to stick but it is quite impressive. I drove up the hills and it is a different world above about 600ft or so. I also drove west into the coast range and even at 250ft it is pretty snowy for the most part. I turned around at about 1000 ft in the Coast Range where there is a ton of snow. Must be 15+ inches.

If all of this happened overnight, I think we would have seen several inches even at the lowest elevation. Regardless, a very impressively cold day for late in the season.

Well, you can see on Google Maps that the building with the antenna on top of the hill matches. The foreshortening effect of a telephoto lens would indeed make the hills look steeper and any mountains behind them look closer. It's just that there aren't any such mountains visible from that angle.

I think you are correct that the telephoto lens has distorted the photo making the hills look much steeper. If that is the case, then it is a Photoshop job with the image of Ventura superimposed on another image with high mountains in the background.

I knew it would be a bust this morning the second the WSW was issued. Oh well, picked up another sloshy half inch with tons of non sticking snow that was cool to watch.

But holy cow. 😲 Check out the Crater Lake lodge. They are about as buried as I've ever seen them.

Ag Weather update yesterday said MJO phase 8 in March tends to lead to a western ridge.   We will see.

Looks like the CZ is finally starting to die off on the north side, looks like it might want to rebuild to the south

Looks like its focusing more on the NE side of the Olympics around Port Townsend.   It might be starting to slowly fade.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see it expand eastward towards King/Sno county line or a little south of that.

It has officially stopped snowing at home right as I get off work! It’s over!

really though that’s cool it snowed the whole entire day. At least grassy surfaces will be nice and snowy for a bit.

For my neck of the woods, this winter's been a solid C or C- that's carried hard by the cold snaps and ice storm. C's still get degrees, but with the numerous chances this season had, even Fife could've had an A with just one 6-7+" snow event. Feels like the same story for Tacoma/Puyallup/this whole south region, just getting burned a lot.

Like taking a final exam that you were projected to get an B+ or A- on, only to get up with a C. You still passed and hooray, but could've/should've ended up with something much better. The 2" I got is better than nothing, yet could've been way more with how this winter was set up and hyped up. Also PDX and the WV getting a fantastic snowstorm helped offset the gloom a bit to see our friends down south finally have a great time.

Not truly disappointed cause there's always next season just like football, and if anything, getting burnt a lot by weather models actually improved my grades this quarter cause it's great motivation to bust a** and move out of here. Now if I feel unmotivated to work, I just remind myself that I still live under this cursed snow dome lol.

Would’ve figured you had more than me on the peninsula. 7.6” here this winter.

No, I'm far enough away from the upsloping off the Olympics and the cold pool which develops over Hood Canal, and I'm far enough away from getting the significant snow from a CZ.  It always seems to be 10 miles away.  :)

Back in December, I had two inches where I live (and 1/2 inch of ZR), but if I just went across town--about 4 or 5 miles away, they had half a foot.  Location, location, location.

My wife drove up to the Bellingham airport to drop off her mom, she said as soon as she got on the freeway at 218 (Starbird) and started down the hill there was no snow at all on the ground and it stayed that way until the Cook Road exit. Then snow on the ground all the way up. Was snowing hard in Bellingham but the roads were fine. Oh I love where I live!! On a side note…My mom in law was last here in the winter months between Christmas and New Years Eve Eve 2021…Same exact situation where we had puking snow and no power the day she was leaving…Crazy! Then and today…The only difference was a little less snow and a little warmer temps. Guess I will be begging my mom in law to come up for Thanksgiving this year! 😀

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!
