Really, really lovely cumulonimbus action tonight! I just happened to have my drone in the car and got some solid shots of DT Seattle/Lake Washington/Mercer Island/Bellevue looking north from Skyway. Alas, the focal length of the lens doesn't do the vertical height justice and my WB was off rendering it into semi-gross HDR territory, but still... fun looking weather! It was quite windy- I was flying right at 390 ft and the drone was giving me all sorts of warnings about sustained winds/gusts.
A most incredible snow storm. At times the snowfall rates have been as heavy or slightly heavier than January 2017. Temp 27.5, Dewpoint: 27.1 with gusty east wind and very heavy snow continuing. I'm at 11 1/2" now! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! This pic does no justice at all.
NBM is quite an interesting product! Their weighting algorithm is moderately complex and dynamic, though does has some drawbacks as we saw yesterday. For those who don't know, NBM is an attempt by NOAA to create a super probabilistic forecast model that ingests output from all the models above and outputs forecast guidance for local offices that help them to gauge the relative odds of particular weather outcomes. The 'special sauce' is the post-processing, normalization and weighting that they d
I got introduced to Coleman Hughes when a clip of his interaction on The View went viral recently. Here's that segment of their show, if you're curious.
Putting aside their obvious disdain for this man and Sunny Hostin's incredibly rude and condescending manner in questioning him, I heard him talk about some really interesting ideas - ideas that, IMO, should be considered common sense but are unfortunately labeled "radical right wing talking points" by ignorant people like Sunny.
Coleman makes the case for a true "color-blind" society where we acknowledge that people are obviously different races (in contrast to the folks who like to say "I don't see color" as if that makes them non-racist) but that we should focus on socio-economic classes in order to better address the issues of today. He talks about eliminating race-based government policies that group people based on their skin color (ie if you are black, you are automatically at a disadvantage and should be given preferential treatment) in favor of policies that look at other metrics such as income, crime, family wealth, etc. in order to determine who in our society needs additional help and who doesn't. He also talks about how Robin D'Angelo and Kendi's views on racism are fundamentally racist themselves, quoting D'Angelo in saying "I strive to be less white, and by being less white, I'll be less ignorant", and how that type of viewpoint does more harm than good in trying to fight racism.
He comes across as an incredibly intelligent, rational, calm, collected young mind that I think our country would really benefit from listening to more often. Below is another recent interview he did on PBS, which is much more fair and actually allows him to get his points across without ad hominem attacks. I highly suggest a watch if you have the time. Very interesting stuff.
I've never even heard/read anything about "local climate change" and rarely even UHI in mainstream media.
The messages that have been hammered home by most scientists (and activists) almost always are based around global warming - even if local stats and trends provide the reference.
Not to mention I think there might be one or 2 up who have relocated to places like Vancouver BC, Seattle, San Fran, LA and other major cities. Lets also not forget Lethal Weapon 4!
