Getting some showers here now, the last one was grapple. This one looks more mixed. Grapple over snow is an interesting sight:

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

My wife drove up to the Bellingham airport to drop off her mom, she said as soon as she got on the freeway at 218 (Starbird) and started down the hill there was no snow at all on the ground and it stayed that way until the Cook Road exit. Then snow on the ground all the way up. Was snowing hard in Bellingham but the roads were fine. Oh I love where I live!! On a side note…My mom in law was last here in the winter months between Christmas and New Years Eve Eve 2021…Same exact situation where we had puking snow and no power the day she was leaving…Crazy! Then and today…The only difference was a little less snow and a little warmer temps. Guess I will be begging my mom in law to come up for Thanksgiving this year! 😀

It was dumping snow in Bellingham around noon and there was snow on the ground an hour ago and it just disappeared in no time.   My mom still is not sure about heading to the grocery store though.   😀

Snow has stopped, filtered sun is coming through and the downspouts are making quite a ruckus with all the water pouring down them.  Show is over for here, I guess its a matter of how much is left by the time the sun gets low and whether or not it gets below freezing.

South wind is roaring so strong now that I can hear it inside the house... low is passing to the north.

I can empathize. If we had as much snow as we’ve had dry wind this winter we’d be like Lake Tahoe right now. 😂 Seems to be a theme in warm/crappy winters..lots of downslope/mountain wave regimes.

Honestly can’t count the # of times we’ve been jarred awake in the middle of the night by wind pounding the house. We had triple pane windows installed and it hasn’t helped at all.

RadarScope now has radar archives back to 1991! Browsed through all of the most amazing storms/blizzards in memory, and it re-affirmed that 2/9-10/2010 was my favorite winter event of all time (to date).

What I wouldn’t do to go back in time to relive that one. 😫

But if y’all want I can post the hi-res radar loops from Dec 08 or others. There’s so much to browse through I don’t know where to start. 😂

Feb 8–9th 2019 in the Seattle area, the night I went into high weenie mode about being dry slotted for hours, went to bed in disgust, and woke to find that it had dumpity dump dump dumped from about the moment I fell asleep onwards.

Saturday is looking good, right?

Early Saturday has potential on par with the last couple days. All about timing and gradients, although the air mass might be a bit warmer than what we have today/tonight.

Thanks! Time zone issues: 11:00 PM PST = 2:00 AM EST, 7:00 AM PST = 10:00 AM EST. So 02:00 to 10:00 is the real time span of interest.

Edit: never mind, saw the second one. Interestiong that it wasn't continuous snow, just a handful of really potent showers. They must have REALLY dumped because I scored about 9" in 8 hours, must have been 2-3"/hr at times!

Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Metro Vancouver - central including the City of Vancouver Burnaby and New Westminster
  • Metro Vancouver - North Shore including West Vancouver and North Vancouver
  • Metro Vancouver - northeast including Coquitlam and Maple Ridge

Another round of snow is expected.

Where: West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Fraser Valley and the Sea to Sky Corridor.

When: Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

What: Snow accumulations of 5 to 15 cm.

Impacts: Difficult driving conditions due to slippery surfaces and reduced visibilities in heavy snow. Thursday morning commute will likely be affected.

Remarks: A Pacific frontal system is approaching the South Coast. Light rain from the system will start tomorrow afternoon and will intensify in the evening. As snow levels drop to near sea level tomorrow night, the rain will change to wet snow or a mix of snow and rain. The mixed precipitation will continue through Thursday morning.

Snow accumulations are highly variable depending on locations and elevations. Over the Metro Vancouver, up to 5 cm of snow is likely mainly over higher terrain, while up to 15 cm of snow is possible along Sea to Sky Corridor.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
