PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

Recommended Posts

Friday outlook: A little worse for the hood canal but still solid.

Now looking forward: This map represents a bunch of fringe snow events that add up overtime. I am very doubtful that any if all/will happen with sun angles greatly rising and getting so late into the year. However, who knows.

I am putting the hood canal on WINTER STORM WATCH for this weekend!❄️

Lows weren’t super impressive with these stubborn clouds. Spots that cleared did well though. Cloudy and 29 here.

Moving to Yosemite NP image.png.55780f83d35b3086411448a24b2eacb9.png

I have a friend in Wawona, inside Yosemite. She said the town lost power and water, and likely wouldn’t have it back for a week. Roads are shut down but there was a 2 hour break between storms and authorities said they were plowing in that break so anyone could evacuate if they needed, before closing the roads again.

I love snow but that is probably just a LITTLE more than I’d like.

Has anyone here learned Ncar command language (or the python version) and have insight on how hard it is/how long it would take to learn? Trying to dive into data analysis a little more

I’ve learned the basics in C++, Python, Matlab, and am learning R now. Python is actually my favorite, but was also harder for me to figure out. But R is quickly growing on me..open source, free, lots of online resources.

I intend to learn all of those at some point, took first CS course this year so just working with Python for now. NCAR has a lot of resources for creating weather graphics and stuff, such as maps with ERA5 reanalysis

The 18z ECMWF is closer to being real with that snow situation Friday night.  925mb temps are pretty much there for supporting snow and precip intensities in the South / Central Puget Sound area are shown to be pretty good.  Might be our last shot to get something.  We're due for a good break in this area.
