PNW February 2023 Weather Discussion - Meteorological winter finale

KATU is forecasting 2-7"?? Seems kind of ridiculous. Everyone is now scared after the bust earlier

Haven't been following the models as closely on this one but at a glance it looks more like T-2" for most, maybe as much as 3" for Clark county and areas right up against the Coast Range.

6 or 7 inches of snow in PDX metro with a light southerly breeze? Pretty darn unlikely IMO.

Took me a while to catch up on the forum this evening since I was at a dog agility competition all day. Looked like the 18z’s were pretty darn good for my area, the 00z’s not quite so much. But it’s coming. 33/17 on the day, currently 25 with a DP of 13. Oh and those EURO temp maps a few days ago that forecasted temps between 40 and 43 for my area the last two days I believe…HAHAHAHA! Not even close. The last 3 days I have topped out at 33, 35, and 33.
Was a lovely sunset.

The ECMWF this morning showed about 35 for a high there this afternoon.    Arlington airport had an official high of 37 today.

It was 1 degree too warm for BLI and 2 degrees too cold for SEA.    Not bad overall.

I think I had 11 inches where I was living on that one.

I also had about a foot! One of the last times I remember being gathered around the radio in the kitchen listening to 710 Kiro Newradio AM for the school closure announcements! Both my sister and I jumped for joy when they called Snohomish County “Lakewood School District #306 CLOSED” Ahhhh those were the days. After that they started scrolling the closures on the morning tv newscasts.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Tomorrow night is looking like 1-2” here. Too early for me to really guess much for future systems. Pretty much each one has potential for accumulating snow here…particularly Tuesday.

Tuesday is the most interesting in my opinion.   Deformation zones can do crazy things.

Looks like it was fairly accurate up here. We ended up with a 31F high today in spite of all day sun. Looks a little too warm for the Fraser Valley though. Most stations I looked at were sub-freezing all day. It takes a pretty impressive airmass to keep us below freezing for a full 3 days in late February with mostly sunny skies and no snow cover; it's a shame the overrunning event is taking a quick-scour trajectory. Looks like North Vancouver is going to get nailed tomorrow, it's one of few regions actually favoured by this trajectory.

I’m confident I will see some flakes at some point. Maybe next February.

November was pretty big here. 2nd coldest on record and 11” of snow, more than I previously had in 11 years combined.

00Z GEM shows the big potential on Tuesday as well.   After that the next system on Thursday/Friday is a little too warm and then it sort of dries out.

Yeah we've had 5-6 inches in some spots, partial melting in the grass and lots of melting on the streets

I think we were in the 6-8" range, I measured 6.1" but the winds kind of made that measurement inaccurate probably. Still can't believe how great of a storm this was. Some cameras here during the heaviest of storm. It was really crazy.

I’m hoping the Euro looks more like the GFS for the storm on the 5th/6th.

My guess is the euro will be great from Eugene to Vancouver BC. It has also been the most accurate in terms of snow maps this year. I must confess.

Maybe... but the 12Z ECMWF showed a strong SW wind on Thursday and Friday which would greatly limit accumulations here.   It all depends on whether a surface low develops which is probably quite likely.

It’s easily snow here either way.

Well GEM is a rain to snow, which is a pretty common transition in this pattern.

Yeah... verbatim the GEM shows a set up in which you get lots of snow but its a little too warm in my area due to strong SW wind.
