The severe drought area from Ottumwa into northeast Missouri finally got some heavy rain.  There were even some flash flood warnings from Kirksville eastward.

Had a nice surprise strong storm cell move through. Other areas of Lincoln weren't as lucky but on the Southeast side I got clipped by the area of heavy rain. About 10 minutes of torrential rain and very loud thunder. Made for a nice soaking. I'd say we got about 0.3" over that 10 minute span. Sun's back out and now it just feels like your average Summer day again. 73.8*F.

Despite the fact the temps were held down to the upper 60's today, and clouds did not clear at all, there are now some nice looking storms forming to the west of CR/IC. They aren't severe at the moment, but still look like they are producing heavy rain at least.

Rain was coming down at an incredible rate when the first two cells moved through my area. Picked up 0.3 inches of rain in just 10 minutes. My total so far for today is 0.83 inches.

I was asleep when the rain woke me up.  I wasn't expecting anything.  A couple stations near me also received 0.20-0.30", so I probably received that as well.  There were a few downpours, but nothing torrential.

Update:  I received 0.32" last night.

I had a couple rounds of loud storms that rolled on through the area around 2:00am that woke me up.  Some wx stations just NW of me picked up 1.25"-1.75" of rain while my area picked up .75".  Not to shabby.  This moisture should add to the humidity today.  It's been a rather wet period across a lot of the Plains/MW region and well timed for the ag belt.  A lot of places near the KC/MO region that have continuously been missed by hits, turned the corner this past week and have received some good soaking rains.  Are these hints for the Autumn pattern or still the same ol' pattern?  I think its a little bit of both.

While we are on the final legs of met Summer, there is one last storm system we will likely track early next week (8/28).  It's been on my calendar as it fits both the LRC and BSR rule.  The active pattern doesn't look like its letting up and this one in particular has my attention bc it will bring an end to the heat/humidity for a few days post-system, ushering in a nice cool airmass to end the month.

Before that happens, we have some severe wx potential Sun night around the GL's region...will the Grand Rapids area turn the corner...finally???

Currently, some t'stms rolling through my area. Should clear out later today. Heat is on the way for next week as temps will soar into the 90s. Tomorrow should be near 90, or close to it.

Woke last night to the sound of thunder.

How far off, I sat and wondered?

Started humming a song from 1982.

Ain't it funny how the night moves?

Especially with autumn closing in..

Woke last night, sticking to my bed.

“It’s humid as f***” I said in my head.

Fell back asleep, drenched in sweat.

Sick of the heat, is it autumn yet?

For real idk if I can take much more heat waves like the one coming up. Bleh. Bring on highs in the 60s and non existent humidity please!

As long as it's snailing, it being downgraded doesn't matter. Harvey last year made landfall as a Cat 4 yet the worst of its damage came when it was a tropical storm.

It’s a rather interesting morning here as the fog has gotten much thicker, viz dropped to about 1/2 mi, the air is so damp and thick it feels like your walking through one of those humidifiers that spew a stream of vapor in the air.

Ol’ Man Winter waking up earlier this year. I think these areas, along with SW Canada get in on the action over the next week or so. From fires and smoke, to snow...the wx is fascinating and never a dull moment.

Cloudy and very humid currently w dews in the low 70s (73F) to be exact. Some peeks of sun from time to time. Hopefully, the sun stays away today. Any sunshine will make it even more unbearable.

No kidding. You usually don't start seeing winter products in the higher elevations here until mid-late September.

I decided to mow the lawn today in this oppressive heat/humidity, must say, it felt like one of those good ol' summer days our friend @CentralNeb has posted on here.  Dripping sweat off my face non stop....yuck!  Although, if your a body builder and trying to get a physique, this kinda stuff will shred you up!

Some places in Wisco are going to need a boat after this week is done with.  My worry was for a similar set up as we saw in mid June up where the Yoopers live up in the U.P.  All the models are now showing training storm potential for days.

Came on here to post exactly this after I saw we had a 74 degree DP.  Nasty out there.

Didn’t know your a poet! Nice lines...

Was hoping someone in here was of the right age to catch what I did there. I can only take credit for slightly modifying a fellow Michigander's lyrics. Ofc, he's in the Rock-'n'-roll Hall of Fame, and well, I'm not in any Hall of rememberance, lol

Feel your pain Tom. That has been a constant theme during this very humid summer. I mowed yesterday, Dew was 70, I sweated through my hat and shirt. I have my phone on to measure my steps and it takes about 9000 or so to complete my yard. I have a Toro personal pace walk behind mower that has been great mowing every 3-4 days since May.
