The temp is only in the mid to upper 40s under the light rain band in Iowa this afternoon.   Brrrrr!  It has mostly been sprinkles here with a temp near 50.

DVN is forecasting 36 here tonight, with only patchy frost.  I shouldn't have to worry about my garden.  I may throw a sheet over a couple of the most exposed/tender plants.

Currently getting some light rain as the CF gets ready to pass my area. Tanite clearing will take place and the chill rolls on in. Lows will be in the mid to upper 30s. Some spotty, patchy frost is possible, but not widespread.

Rise and Shine!  It's the coldest morning of the season for many of us on here.  Plenty of mid/upper 20's showing up across the Upper MW/GL's region and likely will end the growing season for many up north.  Some spots in MN may see some more snow flakes later today if the disturbance tracking across the north holds together.  Gotta give the long range CFS some brownie points as it gave us a clue weeks ago this would be possible.

The sky outside is so blue and the air is so dry. It feels great! Dews are in the upper 40s and temp at 52F. Still have not turned on the furnace. Will wait till at least October. I hear 70s are returning next week.

Indoor temp of 62F, results in flipping on the furnace for the first time this season on 9/29. As the sun rises, I can see frost on the rooftops in my neighborhood. Gonna head out and take a morning walk and soak it up!

I also turned the furnace on this morning. It was also 62 in my house the out side temperature this morning here at my house was 38° at this time with sunny skies it is 58°

Todays official low of 40° at GRR was the coldest temperature at the air port since a low of 30° on April 30th 2018.  The low here at my house was an even colder 38° With mostly sunny skies here at my house the current temperature is 58.  The mean for this September at Grand Rapids is now down to 67.4° and will go down more in the last two days.

Had 40F. Used my furnace to de-chill the place. More to test that it's working than due to cold house temp.

Beautiful day and perfect outside project wx which I've been taking advantage of. Been waiting for these kind of days!

Never got to 50 today at my place. I love this pattern, too bad it's a short one. We warm up slightly tomorrow, then 90 isn't out of the picture as we enter October. I managed to stay away from the furnace today by lighting a couple fires. 48.2*F.

On this Football Sunday, I found an interesting way to use the weather maps and portray some football lingo.  In the 500mb animation below, take a look at the trough just south of the Aleutian Islands back on Sept 27th.  This is likely the beginning of the "new" LRC pattern which is evolving as we speak.  The Split Flow across NW NAMER is influencing the movement of the energy from the Aleutian Low, which results in a "hand off" underneath the NE PAC/AK ridge, which allows this energy to migrate slowly into Cali and the SW.

We'll see what Gary Lezak says, but I think this may be the 2nd system of the '18-'19 LRC pattern.  Rosa may in fact be system #1, but I've learned that the opening first few days of October are still somewhat influenced by the "old" pattern.  I'm very intrigued by this evolving pattern.
