MSP should be in a good spot to take advantage of this second wave as it cranks up and heads east over the course of today. I think yesterday didn't pan out quite as expected over there, similar issue to Brookings, but hopefully both spots can make up some ground today/tonight. Well seeing I'm trying to get out of here, I can definitely say I'm not looking forward to it! haha

CentralNebWeather
Very odd morning. Nothing showing up on radar, but we have dropped to under a mile visibility in falling and blowing light snow. All the sidewalks, streets and parking lots are covered. This was really not forecasted until a heavier band was to come through tonight after 9 PM. Where ever that band hits tonight, might be a surprising several inches in a short amount of time. That band has been either through my county or very close in multiple runs of the RAP and HRRR. We had a lot of melting the last 2 days, but the big piles and drifts on the north sides of houses and buildings are still quite impressive.

CentralNebWeather
Snow continues, actually has picked up in intensity. 0.75 mile visibility. Eye balling from my classroom it is easily over an inch. Winds gusting to 40 MPH is leading to a lot of blowing and some drifting. NWS Hastings kind of dropped the ball on this one. Same here in Royal Oak...unless it's worse farther up north of Detroit. Windshields are iced over but I was out with the dog and was able to walk. Seems like it was more sleet than freezing rain. There's a stop sign in front of my house and cars don't seem to be sliding around. I know I'm more on the border of the warmer air here so that could account for a lot (although my weather station IMBY is saying it's 30 out).

jaster220
Caught some near blizzard conditions just north of the mixing line near Saginaw Bay. That's an open stretch of due N-S freeway so the snow was mostly blowing right across and not sticking. further south the mix was leaving quite a slushy mess but as long as you stayed where salt and traffic was melting, it was ok. Then I hit the plain rain and got to see my first ever ICE STORM WARNING on the MDOT signs - that was cool. Have seen every winter headline now except Snow Squall Warning. Ice was noticeable in S. Livingston and N. Washtenaw counties. This is mostly an elevated surface event as the rain pouring was just making puddles. Nothing like my commute home on 12-28-15 when even with full defroster I could not keep ice off my windshield and wiper blades. That was much colder upper 20's temps. Coming into Canton from the west along M-153 was a bit scary. Drove under a huge tree that was leaning way over the road and looked like it could come down at any moment. Also some power lines drooping way low in that area as well. Hit the grocery store for a couple items and while inside it went dark for about a minute. I see DTX has added several counties into the ISW, including Wayne. Hoping not to lose power as we have no close relatives to go hang with. 2 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918
