newest run from GFS.  I'm literally at the cutoff line that shows 0.  but 2 miles south shows .89.  Cut these totals by 2/3 and it's still an awful ice storm.

This is truly a tough forecast. Give me 3ft of snow, than 0.25 or even less" of ice. Those ice numbers to our south are insane. Catastrophic levels perhaps?! Wishing anyone who gets this crazy ice best of luck. Hopefully my area gets snow and sleet only, avoiding the danger stuff. Thankfully, all of this is outta here by late tanite.

The initial wave yesterday ended up further south than the models predicted which definitely cut into Brookings and surrounding areas overall totals. MSP should be in a good spot to take advantage of this second wave as it cranks up and heads east over the course of today. I think yesterday didn't pan out quite as expected over there, similar issue to Brookings, but hopefully both spots can make up some ground today/tonight.

Well seeing I'm trying to get out of here, I can definitely say I'm not looking forward to it! haha

Very little snow with mainly sleet here in Macomb, and now just some rain drops at 11:47am

Lets hope we can avoid the freezing rain. Not a fan of ice. Fingers cross.

Very odd morning.  Nothing showing up on radar, but we have dropped to under a mile visibility in falling and blowing light snow.  All the sidewalks, streets and parking lots are covered.  This was really not forecasted until a heavier band was to come through tonight after 9 PM.  Where ever that band hits tonight, might be a surprising several inches in a short amount of time.  That band has been either through my county or very close in multiple runs of the RAP and HRRR.

We had a lot of melting the last 2 days, but the big piles and drifts on the north sides of houses and buildings are still quite impressive.

The precip has been pretty light so far, but it's definitely getting icy.  My patio is a thin, but solid sheet of ice.  The cars are iced up.

@Niko our area over here is a mix of sleet and snow.  Went to Novi for an appt and there was ice on our car. Roads were wet.  Here is our house after that heavy shower went through.

At the current time here I am getting some light freezing rain with some snow mixed in. The ground is white but not much has fallen as of yet.  With a temperature of 30 and some wind.

I'm getting Huge flakes right now.

We are currently experiencing snow, sleet.  It is also gusting from the east around 25 mph.  The heaviest precip of the event the next 6 hours is moving in.  More freezing rain south, but should make its way this far north in a few hours.

They are saying over our area the warm nose is muted.  Which is evident as I am seeing light snow here.  This system is acting like WWF match imby. Snow vs Sleet vs Freezing rain.  Who will win?

Just had a 30 mph wind gust.  Can hear the sleet mixed in and bounce around out there.

Biggest flakes I've seen in a long time.

Snow continues, actually has picked up in intensity.  0.75 mile visibility.  Eye balling from my classroom it is easily over an inch.  Winds gusting to 40 MPH is leading to a lot of blowing and some drifting.  NWS Hastings kind of dropped the ball on this one.  If we can get the band tonight, there may be some surprised people tomorrow morning.

I have not been outside but in looking out the windows it really don't look all that bad here at this time. The ground is white and there is some ice on the side windows of the car in the driveway but I can not see much if any ice on the trees.

Same here in Royal Oak...unless it's worse farther up north of Detroit. Windshields are iced over but I was out with the dog and was able to walk. Seems like it was more sleet than freezing rain. There's a stop sign in front of my house and cars don't seem to be sliding around. I know I'm more on the border of the warmer air here so that could account for a lot (although my weather station IMBY is saying it's 30 out).

Believe it or not, I am seeing the overcast in the skies break a little. This is not turning out to be as bad as was predicted, thankfully. So far, so good. Currently, very light freezing drizzle from what I am I seeing. Temp is at 32F. I do see some icy spots on car-tops, roofs, and my driveway looks a little treacherous.

Video of the current conditions here along with a couple pictures of some very cool looking drifts. Takes your breath away when that strong, cold wind hits your face with a bunch of crystallized snow along with it.

Some tree limbs and branches snapping in the woods across the street from me and the power went out for about 5 minutes. Quite a bit of ice on the power lines and trees with ice falling from the trees during wind gusts. Currently 31.5 degrees, temp has been bouncing between 31.1 and 31.9 since 6:00 a.m.

Stay safe out there.  It a mess out here.  Fortunately we have had mostly sleet near 59.  News said that this storm has just started. Heaviest rates are between 6pm and 10 pm.

Overall a tad disappointing so far.  Models didn't deviate for days on end and now as we approach the event totals have been cut dramatically.  Still a powerful storm, but not the incredible system it had looked like.

Seems par for the course over thr past 2 years.

It's not bad at all here in Cedar Rapids.  It's icy in spots, but even the trees aren't iced up very much.  The temp has gradually risen above freezing, plus the precip has been pretty meager.  I won't know for sure until I melt the gauge contents, but models were predicting 0.3-0.6" precip and I don't think we'll even come close to the low end.

Caught some near blizzard conditions just north of the mixing line near Saginaw Bay. That's an open stretch of due N-S freeway so the snow was mostly blowing right across and not sticking. further south the mix was leaving quite a slushy mess but as long as you stayed where salt and traffic was melting, it was ok. Then I hit the plain rain and got to see my first ever ICE STORM WARNING on the MDOT signs - that was cool. Have seen every winter headline now except Snow Squall Warning. Ice was noticeable in S. Livingston and N. Washtenaw counties. This is mostly an elevated surface event as the rain pouring was just making puddles. Nothing like my commute home on 12-28-15 when even with full defroster I could not keep ice off my windshield and wiper blades. That was much colder upper 20's temps. Coming into Canton from the west along M-153 was a bit scary. Drove under a huge tree that was leaning way over the road and looked like it could come down at any moment. Also some power lines drooping way low in that area as well. Hit the grocery store for a couple items and while inside it went dark for about a minute. I see DTX has added several counties into the ISW, including Wayne. Hoping not to lose power as we have no close relatives to go hang with.
