11/24 - 11/26 Winter Storm

Just a 5 mile drive south of where I live it is snowing heavily and roads are 100% snow covered. There's a good inch already on the ground in Iowa City.  in North Liberty we have light snow with some snow sticking to the grass, but roads are just wet.  5 miles is the cutoff line from heavy snow to light snow.  5 more miles north of me there is hardly any snow.  Wow.

The heavier snow band has been parked over Iowa City for hours now. It's just ever so slightly moving north.  But it remains just light snow in North Liberty, maybe brief bursts of moderate snow. I just measured 1/2" on my deck.  The snow is still not sticking to the roads here.

Fellow Marshall poster on Amwx:

Fun storm to watch unfold.

Bad storm to have weak warning to the public that heavy snow is on the way (GRR). I’m going to write them in NWSChat and mention the latest 12z model suit and their thinking. IMO we need a WSW for at least the I-96 - I-94 counties ENE. First large storm of the season, holiday weekend.. etc. We don’t need another 130+ car pileup.

IWX with a nice explanation on the storm weakening my way. Guess it's occluding by this point. IF like Michael, it maintains it's strength just a bit longer as it crosses IN and OH, this will be a major shocker to SMI peeps.

The snow has stopped in North Liberty despite solid radar returns.  Must be a lot of dry air on the north side of this system. Beware anyone to the east riding that north edge. You're likely to be on the wrong side of happy.  Crazy storm.  just missed out on a historic one here.

Wow...thought we would miss, but didnt think this bad only an inch or two here and it ended 6 hours early. Glad its on its way out

You are correct. I wasn’t expecting some historical storm, but it sure was disappointing. I really thought you guys would do better than that, it was never going to be great for us out here. However, when blizzard warnings are hoisted, you get excited.

Really good point. I thought we were getting some nice snow showers on radar, but when I looked outside it was just cloudy. The haves and have nots of this storm.

The north edge is crazy sharp.  It's hard to believe the snow has stopped in North Liberty, given they are still on the edge of the yellow on radar.  There are no reports from Iowa City yet, but the UofI cam suggests at least 2" per hour, as heavy as I've ever seen on that cam.  Of course, here in Cedar Rapids we haven't and won't see a single flake.

season snowfall: 34.8"

'22-23: 30.2"      '21-22: 27.1"      '20-21: 52.5"      '19-20: 36.2"      '18-19: 50.2"      '17-18: 39.5"

Average snowfall: ~30"

I still can’t believe the NWS is keeping CR in the warning.
