Not much snow on top of Saddleback Mountain, but these exceptionally cold storms usually are pretty moisture starved.   First 6th days of February are averaging lower for the high temperatures than an

Snow level appears to have gotten down to around 3000 feet in the morning. I only got a high of 49.3 F today, one of the few sub-50F high temperatures I've recorded at this station. This morning's low

You guys are basically getting the ideal storm- strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and lightning, heavy snow, etc.   I am so jealous, enjoy it!

Residual moisture, southwest flow, and orographic enhancement brought me another inch of rain today for a 2-day total of nearly 4.5 inches.

Doesn't look like it will get quite cold enough for snowflakes here later this week, but any snow below about 5,000 feet has been hard to come by in recent years.

After a generally quiet day in my area yesterday with very little rainfall, rain has been much more consistent since midnight today and we just had a band of heavy rainfall move through a few minutes ago.

There has been off and on rain here in Orange from yesterday to today and some of these bands have been moderate to heavy at times. When we get a break in the rain, I will post a total from Friday night to the date I post.

I received just over 6" of rain here in Orange during January, which turned out to be one of the wettest months in recent years for my area.

With today about the same amount of daylight as November 5, we are half way through the winter season. The sunrise and sunset are both 30 minutes later, however, because solar noon went from 11:34 AM in November to 12:04 PM today.

Looks like we may see a little more sunshine today, except for Fullerton Airport where it will probably be showing heavy rain all day long with very little precipitation totals.

Had a 20-minute burst of heavy rainfall move there here about two hours ago while it was only 43 degrees. Ended up with 0.24" for the day.

One last shower moved through my area while it was 40 F after midnight. Tons of snow on the mountains today, a beautiful sight.

Any 7-day period of anomalous weather, cold or hot, extrapolated over a whole month will look impressive.

That said, it's been a long time since we had a persistently cool February period to match this one.  Feb. 17-27, 2011 was a good one.  The low of 29 on 2/27/11 was the coldest I've recorded here.

More wet weather to come this weekend, although the storms may be weak. Still looking forward to them.

Yeah, isn't it great to have actual weather to track?  Every model run contains new surprises.  Feels like such a rare and wonderful gift after the relentless ridging that has characterized so much of the last 6-7 years (2016-2017 excepted).

The rain lasted just 40 minutes here this morning as the front moved through. I'd rather have prolonged, drawn-out storms but I guess beggars can't be choosers.

We had enough of those last weekend and early this week. At least I got to enjoy the sunshine this afternoon.

John Wayne Airport is just 0.10" below their annual average after this morning's storm with a total of 13.23". Downtown L.A. is 1.76" below theirs with a total of 13.17". Last year at this time Downtown LA only had 1.86".

Today's system ended up being wetter and warmer than yesterday's despite being forecast to be colder and drier.  0.36" today; 0.26" yesterday.

Models still having trouble narrowing down how much rain the mid-week storm will deliver, although it does look to be balmy with high snow levels in any case.

It was slightly wetter today than yesterday here as well. 0.12" here as opposed to yesterday's measly 0.04".

Latest solar noon of the year in Pacific Standard Time with the actual time of solar noon just over 30 1/2 minutes later than back on the first day of Fall Back. You may have noticed most of the light gained has been in the evening since the Winter Solstice. We will now start to gain more daylight in the mornings than we do in the evenings.

High of 62º today was the warmest since 1/30.  After this week's tropical AR event, another shot of cool weather looks likely for the weekend.  This month could end up being one of the very few of the last 6 or 7 years to record a solidly below-normal temperature departure.

San Diego (71 F) and Fullerton (71 F) both had higher maximum temperatures than Palm Springs (64 F) today. That usually doesn't happen without Santa Ana Winds, so there must have been some offshore flow.

Los Angeles forecast discussion said yesterday that easterly winds could lower the rainfall totals.

Beautiful, but chilly day today. The mountains were completely white this morning with some snow on top of Saddleback Mountain as well. Too bad the atmospheric river is going to melt most of the snow.

More snow is (or, was until today) visible from my side of the Santa Ana Mountains. Snow was on the mountains down to around 4,000 feet a couple of days ago.

I can confirm the offshore flow. Humidity dipped down to 15% here this afternoon. It's at 59% now.

After 12 days, we've dropped to the 4th coldest February for the average high temperature, but we could easily move back towards first place again.

There's good ensemble support for 850s staying much cooler than normal for the rest of the month, so it could indeed end up being a top-tier cool February.
