Had legit heavy wet snow for a little while there, but it has died down again now that precip is lightening up.

Some decently strong radar echos over west Vancouver at the moment and heading NNW. Heads up @BLI snowman @Timmy and that bro who’s always mad.

Yeah down to 36 here with this now. Bit of a surprise.

We’ve low key been in a pretty cold airmass the last few days, just hasn’t been as noticeable with sunbreaks and afternoon temps in the upper 40s. Sub-522dm thicknesses on the southern Oregon coast this morning.

Not at all. The low key part has to do more with the fact that we’re a week into March so it’s felt relatively benign the last few afternoons.

Hard to hide from the sun these days.

For sure. Now looking like a decent chance that PDX stays below 50 for the first third of the month. Pretty impressive.

ECMWF shows a convective band of precip lifting north through Pierce and King counties late this afternoon into early evening... could be a similar situation as Portland had yesterday evening.    925 mb temps drop to -1C late this afternoon with that band.

00Z ECMWF showed high temps of 50+ at SEA on 7 of the next 10 days... with 2 of the days below 50 being today and Friday.

It appears that Friday marks the end of this cold pattern and perpetual lowland snow chances which began around Valentines Day.    Not that its going to be warm... but closer to normal with a more progressive pattern.

And the EPS continues to show CA getting slammed over the next 2 weeks.

For tracking purposes... the band of precip approaching Portland from the south this morning is the same band that moves through up here late this afternoon into early evening.

The band that moved through Portland last night is still going strong around Olympia and moving northwest towards the WA coast.   Temps are in the low to mid 30s in that area so there is probably some snow in there.

Snow developing again this morning. Pretty much the 5th day of this exact pattern. Last night had some nice clearing though and actually managed to get pretty cold. We hit 25 around 3am, but now we have light snow and 29. I see Salem is reporting light snow and 33.

And right on cue... the ECMWF shows another band of precip moving in down there this evening.    It will probably start snowing again at your house around sunset.

Kind of an interesting/cool pattern. It has reminded me a lot of early March 2019, though with that one we were getting a lot colder at night and we had some just dry sunny and cold days. Today is our 7th straight day with measurable snow. This has been one of the great runs for snow, up there with late February-March 2012 and February/March 2019.

I don't remember much snow in the first part of March 2019 here... just the cold, sunny days and east wind which kept our snow cover from the February craziness in place.    I think there was one snow event in there but it is pretty similar overall up here without the 2 feet of rock hard snow on the ground.

I think March 2012 was snowier here and that pattern continued for the entire month.    I also remember per my relatives that it was crazy warm in Minnesota in March 2012 with many days in the 60-80 degree range and the trees started leafing out which is pretty much unprecedented there in March.   This month is very different in the Midwest.    They have a deep snow pack right now with snowstorms lined up and no warm up in sight.    So I don't think 2012 is a good match on larger scale.

No, 2012 is not a good larger scale match, that was a much wetter period too, we also had 20" of rain/precip in March 2012. Just saying those are the 3 great snowy periods since I have lived here.

After the huge storm you got in 2019, the focus shifted more south and I think most of those events in late February/early March were focused further south, though I know Randy shared some snowy pics from March 8, 2019.

That was the straw that broke the camels back here, or the support beam in the frame of my shop door. We left for Arizona the next morning (Where it also snowed in Flagstaff and Prescott.), I think we had one more minor snowfall while we were gone, but that was pretty much it, and by the time we got back we were moving into that really warm period. This week may be the last time we see snow this winter, but it's also pretty common for us to see snow into the first week of April, and the 06z GFS definitely showed a couple of troughs that could deliver minor accumulations.

The airmass on Friday morning is trending cooler, not a big deal, but could be for up here.
