Twitter is blowing up today with people posting their snow depths.

Nobody alive in town has ever seen anything like this. Its so absurd all you can do is laugh. I couldn't see any of the stop signs or speed limit signs on my street this morning. There are a couple other tweets I posted on the Feb thread as well this morning.

Might stick around through July or August, especially if the grand solar minimum continues to live up to its expectations.

Once the rotor comes through my street facing berm will be over 20' high. That should last into June.

That's amazing. Also I'm a little disappointed that ALTahoe is a neighborhood. I found that out reading WW a few months back. All this time I thought you were some grizzled, wise man named AL who lived in Tahoe and deals with the elements like someone from the Yellowstone series. Or like someone who would rescue the Donner Party back in 1846-1847.

haha. Nope just a neighborhood. Somebody else posted a while back that they thought my member image was a glass of milk and not snow packed into a doorway.

How much snow has fallen at your place in the last 5 days?

Leaving work this morning, that was such a pleasant surprise! Currently at the HWY 2 rest stop east of the pass, 22 degrees and sunny! Lovely!

If last night's Euro is right that Berkeley spot will be about 50 feet for the year and in or almost in top-10 for full year by the second week of March...

DPs were right around freezing when I checked. Either way it’ll have to fall just at the right time for it to work. I just don’t have much faith after yesterday morning but it’s possible. Was just 3 years ago in mid March there was a decent snow event down south. And less than a year ago they had one in mid April.

Pattern change on the 12Z ECMWF... might be the effects of MJO phase 8 coming into view now.

Just like in December when we had the "pattern change." It looks like a ridge and Tim gets excited. But its warm front rain!

Dude... I have zero expectations of nice weather in March.   I fully expect zonal flow and lots of rain as I have mentioned numerous times.   But it is a definite pattern change.

Kind of surprised we only warm to 50 degrees with that ridge. Maybe because it’s transient.

Probably because it quickly turns wet.    Might be time to make up precip departures.

Hardly the first time this has happened. I drove the Angeles Crest Highway once, and one thing that surprised me was coming on an area of avalanche chutes that even then in late summer still had some compacted snow in them. The mountains in that part of Southern California can be very steep, and in the years that enough snow falls, can and do get avalanches.

There is nothing about that pattern that would be warm and sunny... you can see the jet stream quickly plowing in to the west.
