Btw, "our democracy" is more important than a tiktok.

The problem is that we cannot agree on what a democracy means. That's why the Republicans consider Democrats to be a threat to democracy and the Democrats consider the Republicans to be a threat to democracy. One side is afraid of losing their freedom of speech and freedom of religion (values the country was founded on) and the other side is terrified of losing their freedom of abortion and LGBTQ rights. That's also why SPLC calls Focus on the Family a hate group.

Then there's the young people who think government should equally distribute wealth between all races and genders, which once again is against our founding principles of equal rights (not guaranteed equal results). That's like averaging all grades in school to be C's so no smart students get ahead and no dumb students fall behind. It kills all incentives to work hard and makes everybody lazy.

Really there could be a second civil war.

Trump ‘engaged in an insurrection,’ judge says, but should remain on Colorado ballot

https://www.cnn.com/2023/11/17/politics/trump-colorado-ballot-14th-amendment-insurrection/index.html

Normally, I would not care about this, but the following text caught my eye:

The provision explicitly bans insurrectionists from serving as US senators, representatives, and even presidential electors – but it does not say presidents. It says it covers “any office, civil or military, under the United States,” and Wallace ruled that this does not include the office of the presidency.

Seems to me "any office" should cover "the office" of the presidency.

Point blank: Nobody wants to make precedent over the president.  The president is above the law.

Excerpt from end of Trump speech where he asked them to go down to the Capitol.

"And I say this despite all that’s happened. The best is yet to come.

So we’re going to, we’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue. I love Pennsylvania Avenue. And we’re going to the Capitol, and we’re going to try and give.

The Democrats are hopeless, they never vote for anything. Not even one vote. But we’re going to try and give our Republicans, the weak ones because the strong ones don’t need any of our help. We’re going to try and give them the kind of pride and boldness that they need to take back our country.

So let’s walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.

I want to thank you all. God bless you and God Bless America."

I don't see anything that shows that boldly suggests that he wants an insurrection and to storm the Capitol.

According to Conservative Constitutional Scholar Michael Luttig, it very much applies to the President.  My guess is that Judge Wallace was afraid (rightly so unfortunately) to take the final step of excluding the Mango Menace from the ballot.  She really had to reachto come up with this interpretation.

We've covered this before, though I think it may have been with AML....It's so much more than just this speech.  The speech by itself, while inflammatory, would certainly be hard to see as enough to incite insurrection.   You have to include everything that was said in the weeks/months leading up to this event.  But Conservatives conveniently ignore that.

I'll just leave this here....

Right, but until someone has the guts to make good on that seemingly obvious fact, he is, for all intents and purposes, above the law.  Hoping for a loss in 2024 because the crazy right wingers might 1/6 all over again is a glaring weakness in our judicial system.  They'll just ***** and moan about it being rigged again.

These people cannot be reasoned with.

I think you're confusing democracy with policy.

There's zero debate what democracy means (representative government).  Some just think it's less important than getting the policy they want.

I immediately noticed that you left out the part when Trump said "peacefully and patriotically".  The mainstream media usually leave that part out too. Trump never expected the crowd to get out of control and actually enter the White House, but there were agitators in the crowd like Ray Epps and others dressed as Trump supporters who worked them up and tried to get them to breach the barricades, etc. and some capitol police on the inside were actually opening doors and showing people around once they were inside. I could share a video except I'm not sure if I can find them right away.

I copied this from a transcript.  They left that out. But I don’t see where he said anything about entering the Capitol, or show em’, or demonstrate forcefully in the transcript. .
It was whipped up either along the way or once they got there. I saw video of someone shouting at  them once they arrived but I don’t know who they were.
It was such a mess. Some said FBI but I don’t know for certain.  Was it ever proved? The whole thing felt artificial in ways.

I don't think he had to explicitly call for rioting in order to incite the rioting.

All he had to do was to lie and claim the election was stolen from him. Which he did.

Because if it really was stolen, rioting would be deserved.

The video that Tucker had aired last summer of the Shamen being escorted was enough evidence and proof that they soon had no choice but to release him from jail. It was also enough to get Tucker fired from Fox, before he could expose more evidence and before his contract was up, but I think he's still being paid till his contract expires. I've long known that Fox is part of the swamp. But it's good he was fired because now he's not surpressed and has a larger audience on Twitter since that isn't being censored much anymore either.

Recently Jacob Chansley, the man known as the QAnon Shaman, has filed papers to run for Congress in Arizona as a Libertarian.

Xi Van Fleet is an American legal immigrant who escaped from communist China and even knew the horrors of living under China’s communist dictator Mao Zedong.

She is now raising an alarm and speaking to anyone who will listen, claiming that the ‘woke’ movement of the left is exactly like the Cultural Revolution in China that saw young people turned against their own countrymen in the form of the Red Guard.

She recently spoke to Glenn Beck. I'm not at all a fan of Glen Beck, but this is something to think about.

Thank goodness there are elections and not “appointments,” to office.
Elections have consequences.
So who will run against Trump? Besides DeSantis.

I read that piece a couple days ago and got to this part:

Quote

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has weathered a sustained opposition campaign from the same forces for five years and from Trump and Haley in the past year, and he hasn’t put a foot wrong yet.

Which literally could not be further from the truth, so it kind of negates the writer's credibility on the issue. Next.

Yeah, that's debatable with DeSantis. The Ukraine stuff was pretty dumb. If he didn't have such a bland and simultaneously annoying personality I do think he'd be the clear #2.

I agree. The more people get to know him, the less they seem to like him.

Unfortunately for him that dichotomy doesn't work too well for an aspiring president.

There were plenty of non-politically appointed people who thought the investigation was legitimate.  Mueller and co found plenty of evidence if you read the report.  Lots of obstruction and lots of questionable interactions with Russians that folks initially lied on.

You're trying to tell me the Mueller investigation is even remotely the same thing as what Trump did leading up to January 6th??

There were plenty of non-politically appointed people who thought the investigation was legitimate.  Mueller and co found plenty of evidence if you read the report.  Lots of obstruction and lots of questionable interactions with Russians that folks initially lied on.

You're trying to tell me the Mueller investigation is even remotely the same thing as what Trump did leading up to January 6th??

The Mueller Report and January 6th are two giant distractions.

Here is one easy way to understand that January 6th is nothing but a political football.

After 9/11 an entirely new cabinet department was created. Tens of thousands of new federal employees were hired to staff security at airports. Despite no repeat of this event over the next 22 years, those same screening procedures are by and large still in place at our airports.

Juxtapose this with security in Washington DC in the wake of 1/6, an event many in Democrat circles like to compare to 9/11. There was increased security for a time, now it is practically the same as it was before 1/6. I am still just as shocked today when I go to DC as I was the first time I went in 2017, shocked about how little security there is. The fact you can just go in any congressional office building for literally no reason other than that you want to go roam around for hours, and you can hang out in the hall, in the cafeteria, walk the tunnels to other buildings, go in and say high to the staffers at any random office... It's really astonishing how little security, rules, and structure there are, and how essentially none of it changed long term after 1/6. What it shows is that none of those people are/were actually afraid.

If you want to focus on that part and ignore the rest of it than do so at your own peril.

I really *WANT* to ignore the rest because it just really highlights why we can't have nice things, and how pathetic the GOP has become, but the reality is that I am not ignoring it.

I hope you were chuckling to yourself when you typed the portion of your reply that I highlighted, because no sane rational person could say or think that and keep a straight face.

SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!

The foundational mistake Karl Marx made was atheism, his denial of the Eternal Being from whom all things ultimately flow and exist.  He swallowed Darwin’s naturalistic material philosophy whole hog, and that theory still dominates American academia and intellectual thought.  And, “if there is no God, then everything is permitted” (Sartre).  The implications of this have been enormous in America, incalculable.  No moral absolutes exist.  Nothing—abortion, transgenderism, child mutilation, not even slavery or incest in their historical “stage” (Engels)—nothing can be condemned EXCEPT a denial of the transitory nature of morality and historical change.  The greatest enemy of humanity is God and those who believe in moral absolutes.  This is Marxism and the current Democratic Party in America.

SHOTS! SHOTS! SHOTS!

Nationalization of productive resources makes every citizen a slave of the government.  And since Marx viewed capitalism as global, the socialist revolution must also be global.   The current “globalist” movement is totally rooted in Marxism, but directed by a new cadre of Leninists and Maoists—Obama, Gates, Schwab, the elite Left.  And capitalist America has always been the greatest enemy.

And Tailgunner Joe believed that Ike was either a Communist or a useful idiot for Communism.

Both are/were nucking futs.

Biden’s Lawfare Against Donald Trump

In the not-so-distant past, the prospect of a presidential administration weaponizing the Department of Justice (DOJ) and federal law enforcement agencies against the president’s chief political opponent would have been seen as patently un-American and a shockingly authoritarian power grab.

But that is undoubtedly exactly what the country has seen by the Biden administration against Donald Trump. Over the last several months, the Biden DOJ and state-level prosecutors have launched an unprecedented series of politically motivated indictments of Donald Trump – attacks that have grown in intensity as Trump has expanded his polling edge over Biden.

Whether any of the left’s indictments against Trump will ultimately result in a conviction from a far-left jury remains to be seen. But thus far, they have primarily served as major political boosters for Trump, rallying conservative voters to his side in unprecedented numbers.

As the first vote of primary season approaches, the former president will almost certainly continue to face baseless legal warfare from the left.

It's pretty obvious Trump is the victim of political persecution. The fact is he has never been more popular and his poll numbers have never been higher. You can pretend that isn't true, but it is... We are witnessing peak Trump, RIGHT NOW, the only question is if this can sustain for 11 1/2 more months.

It’s a good question.  I think if he paces his campaign not to peak too early he’ll be ok.
Plenty of time to campaign. He’s a known product so his battle is the nomination.  With Biden being underwhelming, Trump can campaign effectively without burning out.
