February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

Fabulous news.  That means the low is south.

It is ripping here!

Hoquiam holding fast at 33 with NE wind. Definitely later switchover than expected there.

Like hearing this. Everyone to the north turn your fans on and point them to the south or southwest!

The run overall is still colder than the 00z as well.

Great for you and me East of the Cascades, but the later in February you go, the harder it is to get snow west of the Cascades. The patterns shown on the morning runs would be great for them from mid December to mid January, but not good enough now. Good for the mountains though, and not far from being good enough for west of the mountains.

First time caller, long time listener...

Had flurries, then a transition to about 5 minutes of rain here and now back to small flaked snow.   Temp gauge outside is showing 36...

Really small flakes and 35˚F here. Surprised it hasn't changed to drizzle yet. None of the stronger radar echoes seem to be making it much beyond Tacoma. If this continues, it could stay snow at Olympia in the heavier precip but change over to drizzle or light rain in Seattle.

It's called clown range for a reason.

That picture just hurts! That's what I always hate after a good snow storm. Just the very sad, very wet mounds of snow or remnants of snowmen that are hanging on for deal life.

Oh boy the sun is out here and the temp is going up fast. I love the sun but not in times like this.

Really? Snowing here.

Dark cloudy as well.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Temps really shot up here in the past 30 minutes or so. Reporting 36.

I think it's cause we're (Greenwood/Fremont) are in an area with little precip at the moment.  The heavy precip really keeps the temperature down.  Not sure why Olympia would be 33 degrees and we would be at 36.

Maybe this cold barrier is stronger than most models calculated.  Hard to believe it's still snowing in places like Westport.

For my area anyway over the last 10yrs I’ve had a few epic events at the end of February so I don’t think that is necessarily the case. Get into the second week of March...then we are stretching it.

Bellevue College (took 2 meteorology classes there) and the Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Ended up drafted by the Phillies in the 27th round in 2015, so it worked out in the end, even though I never really pitched in a game as a pro. Had arm issues and came home 3 weeks after arriving in Florida. If you Google my name (Jake Reppert) you'll find a lot on me.

As soon as you mentioned baseball, I knew exactly who you are. Lookoutlanding for the win!

It really does get tough for lowland snow once we get past the first 10 days of February. And almost impossible for it to stick around long. The only two snows I can remember sticking around for any period of time past the first week of February in the valley were the 2/12/95 one, which stuck around for 2-3 days, and the big 12/19/93 event which was followed by a fairly cool airmass. On 2/26/08 we got a solid 2-3" in the Salem area and that afternoon it was 46 and partly cloudy and you would have never guessed it had snowed that morning.

Played at Pacific U. in Forest Grove. 68-72.  Played in the minors with Baltimore.  Great time in my life.  Left the game to teach and coach.  It was a higher calling for me.  No regrets. Played semi pro ball for some years while I was teaching.  Won a Casey Stengel Semi Pro World Series in I think  '74.  Coached the JV team at Eastern Oregon in La Grande for a bit.  Biology major but weather was always a big hobby.  I'll check you out. I still have some records that stand at Pacific.  Ron Keil.  All American in '70.  Now I just salmon and steelhead fish and tie myself up in knots studying weather models.

Sorry for the off topic.  Baseball gets my saliva flowing.  Spring training just around the corner!

I'll be lucky to be under 40F today with the sun blasting away.  Earlier I thought it might stay below freezing today. It's unbearable to see.  It's like a giant blowtorch searing the white landscape.  A revolting development for sure.

I hope so. The 12z HRDPS changes it to heavy snow East Metro in the morning. So you never know.

This has the band a little east of the Hrrr at the same time. Selfishly I would prefer this solution. But I would like to see the west metro score.

It's funny. So many of us played or are big fans of baseball. Baseball and weather seem to go together in such a strange way. Statistics are definitely a common thread.

Makes sense as weather affects games being played in baseball more than the other 3.

18z NAM keeps snow in the Seattle area a little bit longer this evening compared to 12z run. FWIW.

As far as I can tell, the low is not any further north or south at this point than has been progged by recent model runs. The warm front does appear to be lifting north as forecast...I'll be surprised if Hoquiam stays snow much longer, and OLM will probably switch over within a couple hours.

The NAM 18z analysis hour is colder than the 6hr forecast of the 12z NAM. It's playing catching as it's trying to scour out the cold air too quickly.
