February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

Yeah... 405 north of 520 looks like Snoqualmie Pass!   But appears to be a rain/snow mix in downtown Bellevue and the freeway is just wet.

Downtown Bellevue...

And about 2 miles north in Kirkland...

This is the exit that is closest to here.

I traveled from Everett and never went pat 40mph but there was other people trying to go 50+. Totally nuts in these conditions.

Yep 32 here might have four plus inches before bedtime/Tuesday morning.

OT: what's the best app to measure elevation?

This one seems really good and automatically calculates based on your location:

https://www.whatismyelevation.com/

You can also point and click on a map using this one:

https://www.freemaptools.com/elevation-finder.htm

Both say I'm exactly 509 feet.

Elevation seems to be playing a role and being away from downsloping areas.

Still heavy snow in DT Everett, holding at 30°

Got a feeling you will stay snow into tomorrow. What's your elevation?

Never seen so much snow in my life.

Its getting pretty ridiculous here too.   Heavy rain right now would cause serious problems.

Walter Kelley says no changeover at all from Seattle north.

Yeah I know...it’s an on air Met...but hoping he is right!!

I’ve found he does a really good job; legit weather geek and not just a talking head. I love to watch him when there is big weather, he gets really excited, and it’s fun/funny to watch. He is good about explaining the local weather quirks and microclimates.

He seems to do a really good job of talking about potential weather without going all in. I think he was hinting at this pattern a good 7-9 days before it started, and within a couple of days of it starting was hinting that we were probably looking at 10+ days of “cold weather and low snow levels” and that we would definitely have to keep an eye on things. A day or 2 later he had this out to the 3rd week of Feb. Rarely see the other tv mets talk about anything beyond their 5 or 7 day forecast graphic.

The only thing I will say is that he missed the class on how to do your make up in the HD TV world. LOL!! Or heck, maybe he just wants to have really rosy cheeks on TV!

Go Rod Hill!

Worried about my chances (they are already pretty low) for this one, the south winds are usually quite strong in the higher hills of the Central Metro. Still hope my elevation is an advantage! Either way I get heavy rain- this could be the wettest day I've recorded on my weather station.

Both say around 423 feet. Not sure if I buy it since Finn Hill gotta be higher than me.

So the 3K NAM went a little nuts for tomorrow...

3km NAM putting out some ridiculous maps for something that will most likely just be rain for most low elevation areas. West metro does get shafted as is usual protocol this winter.

You never know- even Mark mentioned the possibility of snow (and the flood threat- it's going to pour!). I'm excited, I could do okay. Dewpoints are dropping, temp down to 37.

Rod’s a little cooky. Our “chances” moving forward have nothing to do with east winds. It’s about post-frontal heavy precip with dead gradients and the column working its way to going isothermal.

Good chance it will stay snow at least through the moderate to heavy precip.
