February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

My dream someday is to build a log cabin on the top of Tiger Mountain.  Close enough to the city but amazing winter weather.

Tiger Mountain on Hwy 18 up here?

Tiger Mountain on Hwy 18 up here?

Not near the Hwy.  I mean the top, 3000' elevation.  Surely some great stuff up there.  Of course that probably throws my close to the city remark out the window.

Are there roads that branch out off of the Hwy and take you to the top or only trails?   Just curious about that mountain as I spent a lot of time hiking up there in the Summer.

Where’s my flooding???

Oh, I'm sure it's coming (to an extent) with the intense frontal band modeled to push in closer to 12 AM.

Wow I’m a little worried I’m gonna switch to rain here.

Well the forecast 925mb and 850mb temperatures are below freezing, things could shift around later tonight if the winds turn SE for awhile and there could be drizzle at that point. Hard to say, but right now the pattern is almost as perfect as it can get for snow in Victoria with cold onshore flow riding over low level outflow. Also the outflow is forecast to kick in again as the low gets a bit closer tomorrow:

I wouldn’t be surprised if I hit a foot by tomorrow. Main precip is tapering off but the heavy showers might amount to something

You can’t build homes on tiger summit. Most of it is public land.

Well.  Just a dream, not reality.  My brother owns some land up above Welches, OR.  He plans on building up there soon so we will have a fun place to go hang out during snowstorms.  His land sits at about 2700'.

I have at least 24 inches on he ground in southeast Ravensdale with the east wind still howling. I have never seen anything like this is my life. It’s been 24 degrees for the last several hours and snow is fine and light. 3 foot snow drifts. Doesn’t seem real

How far east from 4 corners are you?

Must be getting close to a foot of snow now. Never discount cold onshore flow running over outflow here, as long as that dynamic remains we may continue to see snow showers forming right over us. Once the winds shift things will be less favorable.

Freezing rain at crown point as the east winds have made it that far.  Mark says the furthest they will make it is east Gresham.   Could be a wild night out that way.

When do you think they will shift, if at all?  Also, the GEM is showing a watered down repeat of today on Friday lol.

Die blob die!!!

Ya, but isn't the blob due to upwelling from the lower depths?  I always understood that surface temps don't ultimately affect the formation or deterioration of the blob.  Am i wrong?

I was just there not 33 maybe 23. 23 here and it was not as deep there.

I figured. Non weather geeks always overestimate snowfall. She may have measured in a drift.

Cool winds and mixing offshore would be detrimental to the blob. Upwelling generally causes colder SSTs since most of the ocean below the top 100m or so is pretty chilly, especially at our latitude.

It has been at least 30 years since I have seen this much snow. It is raining now and not fun to be outside. Made sure my drains are clear for the melt.

It has been years since I and seen this much rain on my snow. Awesome! Talk about going out with a traditional transition! Nice to have these opportunities.

I made sure to shovel my pathways before the rain returned so I will have a nice none slushy surface to walk on. The rain is doing the fine detailing on the icey spots. Dog will be happy in the morning when going to do his business

Were you there in December 2008?    We had 40 inches on the ground on Christmas morning that year... just on the other side of Ratttlesnake Ridge from you.

We had 30 inches on the ground in January of 2012 as well.
