February Snowfalls 2/10-2/12, Part III & IV

No idea what will happen in Seattle... but there are many cases where Seattle mixes out way before Portland even when the warm is coming from the south. Although that is usually in a strong east wind situation down there and I am not sure that will be case this time.

I figure you’re the guy to ask about the EPS. Any warmup in sight?

NWS Seattle is saying no change over and will be all snow from Everett and north!

Hoping for all snow from here on north. Hopefully they are off by 20 miles.

The end of the run last night did show some progression in the 10-15 period which I have not seen for at least 3 weeks. Not warm... but there is some progression.

27˚F this morning. Did some cold air sneak in from the north? No ZR, no sleet here: all snow, all of it before 19:30 last night, most of it between 17:30 and 19:30, 4.9" new snow from this system.

Watch the lowlands get blanketed:

Not good, but I guess it makes sense. Third week of February has long been slated the warmup. I wonder if today will be it for the snow.

Yesterday's time lapse. Lots to see for a weather geek. Obviously sun to increasing clouds, snow, then a gusty wind.

However, notice around 10 PM, the wind goes calm and the snow falls again. This is what should happen tonight into tomorrow, but there will be more precip and it'll last longer. Also, a bunny hops across around 10 PM too :)

It appears that Mt. Vernon and Burlington are nearly the only schools open today.

Interesting that's where the low traveled across.

Steady temperature here. I think all of Snohomish County will stay 100% snow.

If you read the forecast discussion, they freely admit that it's basically impossible to predict where the exact line will be, and that it's likely the forecast will have to be revised, particularly for King and Kitsap counties. A mostly rain event, and all-snow event, or a roughly even split between rain and snow are all within the realm of possibility.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Official reports of 10-11” in Langley, Surrey, white Rock.

On the island. There was 12-16” from Shawnigan Lake to Nanaimo

Wow. Langley isn't too far away from me. But the wind was blowing pretty good here last night. That might have kept the moisture from advancing this far east.

Also, with the drifting, it's really hard to tell exactly how much I got.

I'm so confused. Portland NWS is taking tonight pretty seriously, but the local news isn't even mentioning a chance of snow at all?

Winter Storm Watch even issued now for up to 6 inches of snow in the PDX metro area tonight into tomorrow

Got about 8 inches last night... way more than the ECMWF showed. Must have 20 inches on the ground now. It's getting very deep. Could be another 20 inches coming in the next 24 hours. Its nice that we are plowed out again before the next round starts.

Highest amounts they say above 500'. You could be a big winner.

12Z GFS is a little farther north with the low tonight and tomorrow morning and also a little more aggressive with the warm air than the 00Z run.

Moderate very wet snow falling this morning and still 32. Been stuck at 32 since about 10p last night. I am sure in the next few hours I will change over to rain for about 12-24 hours. 5" overall with this event. Probably my deepest snow depth since March 2012. 21.9" on the month, my 3rd snowiest month in the 8 winters I have been here.

Isn't GFS always a bit too aggressive with warm air in situations like these? Or am I wrong?

Snowing already here, light to moderate with fluffy flakes. Hoping this will be our time to score!!!

Looking decent for Victoria. I’d guess 4-7”. The moisture isn’t all that impressive on the north side of this system. I’d guess there will be some NE flow enhancement further up the east side of the island. Some places will probably get another 8-14” by tomorrow night.

22F with some light snow here.

No idea... but it is more aggressive than its 00Z run so it did not trend colder at the last minute.

Yea it’s tough to measure when there is drifting. Take a bunch and average them out. We had blowing and drifting yesterday, like I’ve never seen in Shawnigan Lake. It’s generally very calm here when it snows.

Seattle area freeways are in much better shape than yesterday evening but there is hardly anybody on the road on this Monday morning.   Probably a good idea considering it could be bad again by noon.
