February 2019 Weather Observations and Discussion Part 2

HRRR shows not much for the south and central valley after midnight, snow reaching well up into WA.  Also shows the low center currently over Crescent City CA reaching Sequim by 9 am tomorrow, crossing over Sweet Home and Portland on the way.  One of the oddest tracks I have seen.

That is one fast moving low if that happens!  No matter how you slice it things are looking better for snow over much of Western WA over the next 36 hours or so.

Is anyone else beyond amazed the ECMWF shows another cold shot equal to or greater than the current one around Sunday or Monday? Mind blown once again!

Yeah, another surge of frigid Arctic air makes it's way into Montana and we get a piece of it. Looks like the cold pool is still there early next week with strong offshore flow. Would be great to get a big overrunning snow/ice storm to finish off this Winter.

No comment necessary.

Seems close. I have had about 41 inches, so that map looks like it may be right for me. We actually had more in February 2014 though, which surprised me. Still a few days to catch up. Nowhere near a record for February though for where I live or for Eastern Washington as a whole, but certainly above normal.

Light snow falling here and blowing around.

Very early for that it would seem.  In my area I won't see more than flurries until the easterly gradients die out.

Looks like I'll finish the month with 21 freezing low temperatures and 26 at 35 or below.  Very impressive stuff for Feb!

Definitely have a shot at record February snowfalls for a few counties in Washington: Benton, Franklin, Yakima(absolute bulls eye epr this map, 3' below 1000' in unfavored locations for sure by the end of the month) maybe even Asotin and Walla Walla. Deschutes the Oregon bullseye of the event probably also has a shot at known records for the month. Clallam west of the cascades(correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe i'm missing a county or two.

Alright, I love snow. Hope we get more. But can we also talk about the pretty rare and rather crazy easterly winds predicted for next week? With a decent cold pool too, that’s amazing. Is it really almost March?

Snowing moderately but it looks insane outside. Snowing sideways, upwards and drifting and blowing everywhere. Very dry powdery snow, haven't seen this stuff in a while. This is plenty of precip rate to get some solid accumulations, but the radar has a huge hole for me soon. Accumulating at a nice pace. Hopefully there is more to come for the west side after this,

You just described heaven for me as I’ve literally gone out for walks in this kind of stuff. It’s wonderful.

Nothing better than blowing powdery snow.

The Euro is your model if you want that.  Pretty breath taking back door blast being shown early next week.  I'm D**n near speechless.

One of the snow events we had up here earlier in the month was like that.  Just gorgeous!  I would trade three inches of that for 6 or 8 inches of wet snow any day.  The way it sparkles when falling through the light is amazing.

King County almost certainly the snowiest Feb since 1916.

King County almost certainly the snowiest Feb since 1916.

Any chance of making it all time for King? Like somewhat reliably and fairly recorded, with more than 1 fort location in each county recording snow. I still think Clallam and Yakima are the biggest winners relative to average/median.

I had forgotten how awesome this is after just seeing the sloppy wet marginal stuff for a long time.  Temp is dropping towards the mid 20s now and airmass is saturating. Nice to not have marginal temps.

The strong offshore flow created a "reverse convergence zone" over the ocean West of the Olympics this evening.

Pretty neat!
