Alright, I love snow. Hope we get more. But can we also talk about the pretty rare and rather crazy easterly winds predicted for next week? With a decent cold pool too, that’s amazing. Is it really almost March?

It's rare for this time of year. Usually east wind season ends around middle of February so this is really extreme. All that snow cover and cold air entrenched in the cold pool is making it last longer than usual. It doesn't hurt to have surge after surge of frigid Arctic air drop down into Montana.

Just checked and saw that Crystal Mountain had an easterly gust of 95 mph at 9:00. WOW

Haven’t seen wind this intense since 4/7/17. Howling, trees are making lots of cracking noises and snow is blowing everywhere.

26 degrees here with moderate snow and a strong east wind. On February 26-27th. Wtf? 

 

Hasn't happened this late in the season in my lifetime. Gorgeous out there with dry fluffy snow sticking to everything.

You just described heaven for me as I’ve literally gone out for walks in this kind of stuff. It’s wonderful.

Nothing better than blowing powdery snow.

 

Yep, it doesn't look like the PNW lowlands out there. This is the sort of stuff we wait all winter for. Come on moisture keep going!. My humidity is approaching 80% and temp is real cold. Should be able to make the most of any preicp I get after this.

Did anyone mention the EURO is showing highs around freezing from PDX - Eugene next Wednesday?

Yeah, it shows an overrunning snow/ice storm for the Willamette Valley. Would be a great way to end Winter.

HRRR has some sort of weird icy mix for PDX an hour or two from now. At least precip seems to be decently available.

2-3"  on most models. Euro was tops with 4-5"

Have had very strong winds in N.Tacoma from cascade mountain gusts I’ve never seen such strong east winds here probably gusting 35-40mph

I think 4-5” was the call. Definitely over-performing and the NWS even upgrade to warning status.

Winds have been absolutely screaming here in North Tacoma, can never remember such strong winds here coming from the east here it’s almost like a windstorm is going on here I can hear the wind roaring here

Did my midnight measurement. 0.6" of snow and 26 degrees. 50.1" on the month.

Overweighing the radar data(seems like no return area about to move over PDX). but 700mb levels and RH tell a different story, favorable environment for another 3 hours so it might back build. I doubt you would get the heaviest returns with the flow shift however.

Light snow flakes are falling here but you can hardly tell I’m standing outside and the wind is honestly intense here probably 40mph gusts here

Winds are really picking up here guys I’m talking like 45-50 in Tacoma this is unprecedented I’ve never seen such strong outflow winds here just bone chilling powerful winds

Yeah the new NAM shows steady snow developing after about 2-3am again. Keeps it going strong most of the metro through 7am, SLE about 11a-noon, and finally ends up here around 3p. 

 

Maybe a few lingering snow showers tomorrow night.

Snowing decently and only 26 degrees! It is obviously sticking super well and everything is covered. Awesome!

It’s been snowing light to moderately the last hour or so now. Very windy with mini-blizzard like conditions at times. Powdery flakes. The wind makes it tough to guess but maybe 1/4 to 1/2” so far. Temp is down to 27 and DP is up to 19.

 

Looks like more moisture may be moving in in the next few hours.
