How is this possible after having the block in place so long already. Something really spectacular going on here! Pretty crazy stuff, I used to think February was a lost cause for winter weather in the PNW. Now we've had Arctic air/snowfalls in Feb 2011, Feb 2014, Feb 2017, Feb 2018 and now this. No other month has come close in terms of delivering winter weather in this area this decade.

snow_wizard
So....we have the GFS, FV3, and Canadian showing some Arctic air seeping in again later next week, and the ECMWF not too far from it. Frontal Snowsquall
The lower solar cycles may be coming home to roost. It is thought the weaker solar cycles cause a slower (more blocky) atmosphere which causes the more extreme events. It's highly possible the last half of the 20th century and first part of this century were unrealistic compared to a norm of more severe weather.Yeah, I read that a Super Grand Solar Minimum could begin next year according to one scientist. This is just unprecedented blocking that I've seen and it looks like it's not ending anytime soon.
