Under a Winter Storm Warning for 5-10" tomorrow morning through Monday morning.

High temps are now expected to be in the teens both tomorrow and Monday (although we might have a midnight high a bit warmer for tomorrow), so the all-time October min max of 20 for DEN will likely fall.

The all-time min of 3 now looks like it could also be in jeopardy Monday night.

Hooray for global warming.

Ended up with 12" of snowfall. 19" in two days. Headed for below zero readings tonight. Currently 7F.

Bozeman Airport and in town are set to break all sorts of daily record lows and highs over the next couple of days. Some daily records could fall by as much as 20 degrees!

Nice pics. It's crazy that there are still fires burning here in late October, but fortunately that's about to change this week.

This was the view of smoke clouds yesterday evening from the dog park looking towards the mountains.

It was nuts. After what happened in Oregon on Labor Day I definitely have a new perspective on these things. I thought it was the Cameron Peak Fire, but now I believe it was the East Troublesome Fire blowing up.

I have a 12 hour overnight layover at Denver tomorrow night. Kind of excited about it, provided my flight makes it in as scheduled.

Yeah, today will have easily the coldest October afternoon on record, but we'll have to depend on tomorrow to get the official record.

12 currently at the house. I'm guessing today's Broncos game will be the coldest October game in NFL history.

To add to that. It's the earliest, lowest temperature on record for anywhere in the lower 48. Really incredible.

Back to back months with historically cold air masses here.

Seen a few other record-breaking, historic early season cold waves (2014, 2009), sure would be nice to see one in winter.

Those were Ninos, when was the last big Niña early season cold wave?

Only one degree more...looks pretty likely at this point. Gradients are more relaxed and way less cloud cover than last night. I'd guess multiple stations will drop below -30F tonight. Even Butte has an outside shot of reaching -30F with the NWS forecasting -28F. Absolutely crazy considering that the state record is from a summit location (Marias Pass).

The amount that we are blowing away records is astonishing.

The record low, high for BZN today was 29F. The high there today was 13F. The record low for today was 9F, they'll likely be close to -10F by midnight. Just crazy.

Looks it dropped down to -20F this morning at BZN. Blowing away the coldest low on record (-14F) for October set just last year. BZN also pulled off a -43.1F departure yesterday.

All the numbers are still coming in but I see that Elk Park Dropped down to at least -25F.

Only dropped down to -5F here.

Ended up with about 6" here. Currently 8 degrees.

Cheyenne had a high of 11 yesterday, which ties their all-time October coldest high.

Casper, WY set their all-time October low with -8 (previous record -3 from 1971) and also their coldest October high on record with 10 (previous record 13, also from 1971).

So there's a major early season cold wave in a Nina for you, Andrew. 🙂

There really isn't a precedent for this major of a cold wave in October during a Nina. Going to be interesting to see where we go from here.

Edit: 1949 did see a major cold wave in October but it was around mid month and not nearly as impressive as the current one this year.

Nothing like 1919 or 1935 but you're right for a Nina it's a decent match. 1971 coldest highs were around 20 and lows around zero and that airmass was a quick 2-3 day hit. We've been below freezing here since last Wednesday evening.

DEN maxed out at 16 today, officially setting a new record cold max for October.

Already down to 9...should be able to make a run at the all-time October low temp of 3.

DEN fell just short with a low of 4.

Colorado Springs did set a new all-time low for October with 1, breaking the record of 5.
