Requiem
What is your favorite winter of all? Mine would no doubt be 2016-2017. Snow events for everyone down the I-5 corridor, that snowstorm on 1/10/17 for my area. A windstorm in April and October, one of the strongest east wind years I've experienced. Heavy rain in February, and several snow/ice events in December and January. A rundown of that year (most are estimations): December 7th-10th: 1 inch of ice, 1.5 inches of snow December 14th: 2.5 inches of snow January 6th-8th: 0.75-1 inch of ice, 1 inch of snow January 10th-11th: 15-20 inches of snow, occasional thunder and lightning February 5th: 2 inches of rain April 7th: 55-65 gusts, 78 gust pretty close by ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2006-2007 would be on there too, as well as 2011-2012 (March storm dropped 11 inches IMBY, heavy rain in January, etc.) Quote "Let's mosey!" --Cloud Strife ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Top 5 Snow Events (post 2014): (1. Requiem
2018-19Epic winter in the South Valley and Puget Sound, particularly the former (the videos of heavy snow are amazing). Also Central Oregon as well. 1 Quote "Let's mosey!" --Cloud Strife ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Top 5 Snow Events (post 2014): (1. Phil
2009-10. Had at least 83” of snow that winter (didn’t measure several dustings/coatings/traces). Over 50” fell in just 12 days. And much more fell just N/NE of me. 5” of chowder on 12/523” blizzard on 12/201” on 1/37” of cold powder on 1/296” of chowder on 2/327” snowmageddon blizzard on 2/6.14” with whiteout conditions on 2/10 to top it off. Winds gusting to 70mph with occasional lightning/thunder and zero visibility for six hours. My favorite storm of them all. Anti Marine Layer
1997-98 - On December 6, a very strong storm brought 7-10 inches of rain overnight to Orange County. That's more than half of our yearly average. In Lake Forest, at the park near my house the creek got so high it washed away parts of the sidewalk far above. It rained so hard that night that it literally sounded like a waterfall from my window. This was an El Nino year and I think February was also extremely wet. Another winter a storm brought a small tornado that damaged some apartments about half a mile from my house, but I don't remember the year.
Black Hole
My favorite winter was probably 16/17 which featured 2 13" storms in close proximity, with an insanely snowy January. That said, I liked 15/16 because of one storm that dropped 19" in one day. The rest of the winter was forgettable but that storm sure wasn't.This last winter had no major storms, but it had by far the most snowy days I've seen in a winter so it added up.07/08 was my first year in Utah so the contrast from Oregon made it special. 1 Quote Winter 23-24: Total Snow (3.2") Total Ice (0.2") Coldest Low: 1F Coldest High: 5F Snow Events: 0.1" Jan 5th, 0.2" Jan 9th, 1.6" Jan 14, 0.2" (ice) Jan 22, 1.3" Feb
erik1974
Mine would probably be 1992-93 in the San Diego area. One of, if not, the wettest, rainfall year for North County Inland locations. Lake Henshaw and Palomar Mountain had their wettest years on record. January 1993 rainfall from Palomar to Lake Henshaw to Borrego Springs to Campo recorded more rainfall than would normally fall in an entire year! Massive rutting on my driveway near Warner Springs - got stuck on two occasions trying to get up to the house. Palomar Obs. Avg. Rainfall 29" 32.93" 1/1993 Henshaw Dam 26" 29.25" 1/1993 Borrego Springs 6" 8.78' 1/1993 What is odd about this year is that the rains were so intense that there was no wildflower bloom like their would be in a 'typical' wet year. Definitely one for the record books in the SD backcountry!

TacomaWaWx
18-19 was definitely the best I’ve personally seen. 23 inches of snow beats every winter here in my lifetime. 20 inches of that fell in 3 days. 2/9 had 9 inches, 2/10 was a straight up blizzard for several hours with 5 inches of snow when I was only anticipating 1-2 inches. 2/11 was another 6 inches. Had 1.5 inches in March, being the first March snowfall in 7 years here. Had snow on the ground for the Whole month of February practically. 06-07 was decent not a ton of snow only 5 inches but it lasted awhile in January here. Very brief cold outbreak in late November that froze everything solidly then snowed on top of it. 08-09 is the closest example to 18-19. Wasn’t really a defining heavy snowstorm just multiple rounds of moderate snow. Snow Lasted awhile. Snow got to about 14 inches at one point still not as much as 18-19. 10-11 was a great winter as well. Hard cold outbreak around thanksgiving and 4 inches of snow. No major snow events in November since then. Small amount of snow in January. February 2011 was very odd we in Tacoma got 7 inches of snow in 2 days while some places like Seattle got blanked and auburn got 0. Even my grandparents house out in graham only got 3 inches. 11-12 featured the 2012 ice storm and 8 inches of snow. Had a little snow in March as well. 10-11 and 11-12 were back to back great winters. 16-17 was decent here. 3 inches of snow in December. Cold January not much snow here however. Snowstorm during Super Bowl 51 drooped 5 inches of snow here. 17-18 was decent again. Had the earliest snowfall I can remember on November 3rd. Only 0.5” fell over 2 days. Had the first white Christmas here since 08 with 2 inches of snow. Had another 3 inches of snow in late February. The last 3 winters 16-17, 17-18, 18-19 were all decent winters here. Unusual to have 3 winters in a row with decent winter events here. James Jones
03-04 is my personal favorite. From a meteorological standpoint there have been better ones in my lifetime but the context puts it over the top. I was 12 at the time and we'd just come off an incredibly dull 5 year stretch of weather that served as my formative years as a weather weenie, so having such a major winter weather event (the first significant snow event since January 1998) was almost impossible for my 12 year old mind to comprehend. SilverFallsAndrew
My favorite winter was 1992-93. Followed by 2016-17 and then 2008-09. 2006-07 was a fun winter in Oklahoma and 09-10 out there was pretty wicked, I think at the time it was the #2 snowiest winter on record at Tulsa. 1 Quote Snowfall Precip 2022-23: 95.0" 2022-23: 17.39" 2021-22: 52.6" 2021-22: 91.46" 2020-21: 12.0" 2020-21: 71.59" 2019-20: 23.5" 2019-20: 58.54" 2018-19: 63.5" 2018-19: 66.33" 2017-18: 30.3" 2017-18: 59.83" 2016-17: 49.2" 2016-17: 97.58" 2015-16: 11.75" 2015-16: 68.67" 2014-15: 3.5" 2013-14: 11.75" 2013-14: 62.30 2012-13: 16.75" 2012-13: 78.45 2011-12: 98.5" 2011-12: 92.67" It's always sunny at Winters Hill!
