Most infuriating weather event

What is the one weather event that angered you the most? Whether (weather?) it be from lack of verification compared to expectation, or even damage to property, or perhaps one of those special “so close yet so far” events.

For me it would either be the huge October 2016 windstorm bust (that one really stung) or the February 24th snowstorm this year trending so far south (after one earlier in the month had been to far north). Special kind of bad cards given to the PDX area this year.

A multitude of severe weather events have left my area high and dry in recent years. Hopefully finished paying down that karma now.

Also the March 6th 2013 snowstorm bust comes to mind. Was supposed to be 12-18”, but it was too warm and we ended up with patchy slush.

Jan 1998 missed out on a 10” snowstorm by like 5 miles. Lived in Yamhill county at the time.

One day when there was weak onshore flow near the coast and weak offshore flow inland, thick smoke from a fire blew directly over the middle of Orange County. Beside smelling horrible it completely blocked out the sun all day keeping temperatures in the mid 60s under it while areas just to the north and south were sunny and in the mid 70s. It was also the first cold day of the fall solely due to the smoke, sometime in October. Temperatures dropped significantly in our house. The next day, however the offshore flow got stronger and dispersed out the smoke better with temperatures reaching the mid 80s.

The lady in the cubicle next to me who’s coughing all the time.

Similar lady in my office.

About Every 2 minutes - Uhhmmm (Throat clearing)

Or sometimes it's louder and more forceful (URRRMM UHHMMMMMM)

Lots of loud ACHOOs at times (less often than the throat clearing) almost always immediately followed by a throat clearing

AAA-CHOOO Uhhmmm

She's got perennial allergic rhinitis - which unlike hay fever lasts year round

I moved away from her - Mrs. Phlegm - but soon our office space will be shrinking and I'll need to be next to her again. I have misophonia. Typing annoys me too.

It must be REALLY annoying for her, though.

In my mind, January 2005 in PDX is certainly up there. My recollection was that storm after storm was forecasted to give us snow and we just got nothing. I almost turned my back on a career in weather it was so bad.

Bumping this thread as I am reminded of the Christmas snow from 2017 that affect Portland and north. Lived in Monmouth about 15 miles south of the snow line.

Haven’t had a white Christmas here since 1990. And haven’t had one with snow falling in god knows how long. We finally got a 1 in 50 snow event in late Feb but I personally had one White Christmas back in 2008 barely in the north/central WV.

We had about 6" of snow on the ground in Silverton on 12/25/08. We also had a nice dusting on 12/25/07.

As for the 2017 event. That one wasn't that bad, it wasn't a major snow event we missed out on.

Worst whiff for me was January 1998.
