Seasonable temps next week. Low 80's. Saturday rain potential returns.

Of course.

After today, looks like a string of 80's from Tuesday-Friday around here.  Then the pattern turns active and cooler this weekend and next week.  Talked to a farmer on Saturday that said they hope to get more planting done this week in places but it is very wet below the surface and now after rain on Saturday I see some water standing on the edges of fields.

I have been curious to hear what the latest reports were coming out of the NE/IA regions to see how much crop has been planted thus far.  Thanks for sharing.  I did a quick check, and it seems most of the ag belt had a surge in planting since late April as this drier spell has helped.  Hopefully this weeks warmth can provide even better conditions.

I'm happy to see it. I have some small bushes coming but waiting for 80's to ship.

Hopefully the farmers can get into those soggy fields soon.

Some light rain has redeveloped, but should end soon w skies remaining mostly cloudy throughout the day. Hopefully, some partial clearing will take place by late pm to early evening as the sun sets. Temps are in the chilly 40s.

As of last week Nebraska was behind the average for corn planting.  Will be interesting to see the next report.  This week should add to the acres planted in many areas imo.

Maybe 50% southeast Iowa. Illinois much worse. Models look wet moving foward.

I haven't seen Hail in a long time. Last time I remember seeing Hail was back in the Summer of 2013, where it almost looked like it had snowed. Everything was white outside. It was pretty awesome stuff. That was a severe t'stm that had scrolled on through my area w vivid lightning and damaging winds. Beautiful storm indeed.

Steady rain most of the night delivered 3/8 to 1/2" in Marshall. How much did you get in Macomb? Here at KJXN it's currently overcast and a miserable 47F with a WC of 43F. Feels and looks more like November! I mean, we've had the "pneumonia front" in May 2015 that lasted a day or so, but this has been brutal. Worst Mother's Day weekend since my years in NMI two decades ago. Those 80's mentioned for The Plains seem impossible here, lol

I would say somewhere between 0.25", give or take. You are right, it feels like November, where you would almost start expected some snow in the forecast in a couple of days towards end of the month and into December. Its chilly, damp and dreary outside and as you mentioned above in your statement, it feels raw. Some sunshine did creep out for a bit earlier, but its gone now. I think there is some light at the end of the tunnel though amigo, so, just hang in there.

Attempted ridging over the central CONUS looks transitory at best. Nothing like May 2018's early summer flashes. Every time the ridge pops this year, it gets hammered down.

That's a large indicator to me that ridging of any sort will likely be split between the western US and Washington DC north in the East after weak SE ridging subsides in June-July.

Been pulling for our farmers. It's been a mighty tough year so far. They need all the favor they can get.

This week will be free of prolonged downpours (and it will also be warm) so I'd say Friday will be a decent day to plant. Rain returns for the weekend which will reset the soil saturation.

Wish I can say the same for SEMI. More rain by midweek, unfortunately. Although, it does start warming up eva so slowly.

We'll be in that warming and sunny pattern for 10 days with the exception of Saturday when we have scattered showers in the forecast.

A little sun will be nice. Agriculture needs it and homeowners can get work done.

I can't plant a large bush because it's a swamp in places.

So, is this going to be a relatively wet summer ?

Went from a forecast of 80 here Saturday to 64.  Awful pattern.  Don't trust anything over 3 days out right now.  While it hasn't been awfully cold, it has not been warm either.  Stuck in between fronts and troughs and I hate it.  I need to golf.

In regards to Illinois corn planting, it has been an abysmal start...a step behind the 10-year low of 2013...

D6eQvIdXkAAk8o-.png

4/ @USDA Wx: Still, only 30% of the intended U.S. #corn acreage was planted by May 12. Other recent years during which less than one-third of the corn had been planted by May 12 were 1993 (27%), 2013 (28%), and 1995 (31%) (#plant19).

Absolutely gorgeous outside, not a cloud to be found. Temps are still chilly though. After a frosty start this morning (30s, no frost though), temps are now in the low 40s and will recover into the 60s.

Btw: There is a chance that temp in SEMI hit the 80s on Sunday. Yes, I am saying, there is a chance. :D

I agree 100%. Its how weather works though. I am hoping I get this warm surge of warm air by the weekend, but not holding my breathe. We will see

Its starting to look that way, right...UGH, hope not.

As dry as we can get down here, it will be welcomed in moderation.

My concern is we'll get in this Summer Swamp Creature Feature where fields will not have time to recover when it's time to harvest. I'm prepared for the humidity. It may feel more like Houston, not DFW, but not having to break the bank in water bills is nice.

Also, if temps stay below 100* the electric bills will drop.

The Edward's Aquifer in Texas, no doubt, will replenish. Something all Americans should rejoice about is aquifer health, as water and population growth are at odds. Next concern is will this cool and wet period harm food prices?

Lastly, is this a short trend, or is something bigger afoot?...........(Cue Swamp Creature)

What a stretch of warmth that we haven't seen in a long time.  85, 85, 90 and 90 the next 4 days.  But Saturday through next week, highs drop back into the 60's with many chances for storms it appears.  Good news, we are out of school for summer vacation this Thursday at 11:30 AM.  It will feel like weather to go to the pool or local lakes.

I saw this graphic regarding corn planting throughout the ag belt.  We could see the slowest start in almost 3 decades....

Top 5 Slowest #Corn Planting Years Since 1991 - As of May 12 IL, IN, OH faced with slowest progress in the past 29 years SD, WI, TX 2nd slowest Next week US May 19th Corn Progress could be slowest in past 29 Years
